Most Overhyped Movies

Every Rocky movie after 3.

I agree with Boondock Saints. I was told that as an Irishman this is a must see. Talk about overhyped. It was a shit sandwich.

Pretty much every Kevin Costner movie that did not involve baseball or Dancing With Wolves.

All the Disney movies since they started going all CGI(save for the first Toy Story). Give me Sleeping Beauty, Phinocchio, Cinderella, etc, over the crap they put out now.

I’m just the opposite. I think the new Pixar movies are way better than the old Disney “classics”, other than Fantasia. Fantasia is cool.
I think the new flicks are more entertainment than substance. Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty was a fucking badass. Dude killed a dragon by himself. Rispekt.

Honestly, I think Hayden C. deserved an Oscar for his role as Anakin in II and III. I say this because he almost salvaged that character when Lucas gave him absolutely nothing to work with in terms of script or skilled character development.
I thought that too. Then I saw Jumper.

I definitely agree with 300, new Star Wars and LOTR. Luckily, I had read the crappy books so I wasn’t that surprised by the LOTR movies and their suckage.

I really hated Sin City the first time I saw it and thought it was over hyped garbage. Now that I’ve watched it a few times on TV I’d say it is ok to decent but still over hyped.

Wild Things with Denise Richards was disappointing. Everyone was like yeah titties…wasn’t impressed.

I really hope the new Indiana Jones movie doesn’t blow otherwise it will be on the list shortly.
so whyd you read all the books if the first one sucked? :stuck_out_tongue:

The Deer Hunter

Superbad - Heard nonstop that I needed to see it. Guess what. I did and it blew.

300 - Not bad but it looked so good in the trailers that it lived up to no where near where I thought it would be.

I’m sorry, but your opinion is wrong.

…really though. It is.

Spiderman 3. They fucked that thing up something fierce.

Star Wars: Episdoe I The Phantom Menace.

Everyone was so excited that the Star Wars franchise was coming back, and just assumed that this movie would rock. Well, it didn’t, and the second prequel wasn’t that great, either. Too kiddie and not enough action.

Now I will say that I recently re-watched the prequels when they were on Spike and Episode I wasn’t as bad as I remembered. Definitely the weakest of all the Star Wars movies, but not the worst movie ever made, either.

Episode III is really good.
Good call. Although two might have sucked even more than one, no need or real plot, just a gap filler til the third one (which was pretty good, but not on par with any of the originals), and some awful dialogue and acting. But for amount of hype versus what was delivered, tough to beat the new Star Wars.

First I want to say Im a Star Wars fan boy and damned proud of it.

To every one who didnt like 300 or Sin City, did you read the graphic novels? If you had you would have know what you were getting into. They were exactly what they were suppose to be, and its not for every one.

Now being the SW fanboy that I am, I have to come to the defense of Lucas and Episode 1. Yes we would have been better off had Jar Jar gotten his brains blow out and the kid was not a very good actor. But Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor were the bright spots, and visually the movie holds up well ten years latter. Plus they dont have Harrison Ford.

Also you have to look at what they are being compared to. The original trilogy were a quantum leap in movies and set the standard for everything else to come. The Prequels were doomed to ??fail??

Yes they were over-hyped, But I still say Spider-man 3 three will forever hold the over-hyped crown. Venom might be one of the most love villains of all time and to fuck up his Big Screen Premier the way they did?Spider-Man 4 better be something special.(O yes its coming)

100 million ppl would disagree with you about LOTR being bad books. That and no other book has been copied and bastardized more.

Now The Silmarilian…that is a TOUGH read.

It’s a little tough to get through at times, but it’s a wonderful mythology/history of an entire world. Very entertaining, once you kind of figure out who’s who, what’s what, and where’s where.

I don’t mean to trivialize that task though, haha.

EDIT: They recently re-released the Hurin saga in one book, The Children of Hurin. I haven’t read it myself, but I’ve heard good things about it. It might be a good entry level book for The Silmarillion.

Ya I have wanted to read it

What are they going to do, ruin Carnage next?

They’ll at least ruin Lizardman. Dr. Connors has been in the last two movies so they almost have to go in that direction. Unless of course Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire don’t return, which I hope and pray happens. I’d like it if they waited a few years and then do a complete reboot of the series a la Batman.

Oh, and speaking of overhyped movies, what about the last 2 Pirates of the Caribbean movies? Other than Bill Nighy’s and Johnny Depp’s performances, those movies are completely forgettable. They should’ve stopped after Curse of the Black Pearl, which was fantastic.

I think most movies that are from comic books or games are often bad.

Some recent examples would be the spidermans, that one with Jessica alba and the most current being hitman.

As for transformers if that hot chick wasn’t in it i would have fallen asleep

And those visual books they arnt comics but they have have lots of cartoon pictures in them 300 is one of them i couldn’t stand it yet it had heaps of hype and i was really looking forward to it
I am going to see iron man next week end that has alot of hype around it so ill see how that goes.

Citizen Kane - Rosebud my ass.

LOL

I’d like to know how many people who consider themselves ‘movie buffs’ have actually sat through the entirety of Citizen Kane, which is supposed to be the epitome of cinema.

I have, and yeah, that shit sucks. Just a totally different time, I suppose…
Are you serious? Citizen Kane is a fantastic movie.

I have to go w/ Star Wars Phantom Menace as the most overhyped of all time.

The reason I love Superbad is because of the party scene. I mean how many of you when you were a teenager ended up at parties like that. Your in high school and everyone at the party was way older than you. I felt the fear of not making it out alive cause I was at very similiar parties. That sold me on the movie

Now dissing on Kevin Smith and Tarantino is just flat-out ludicrous.
Kevin Smith is better when he has no budget. Tarantino desperatly needs an editor/producer to slap him around. Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Death Proof, all way too chatty. No one wants to watch people do nothing but talk for ten or fifteen fucking minutes. Getting to look at Sydney Tamiia Poitier’s legs made Death Proof tolerable though.
