Not necessarily. Almost any bad advice can be made to sound good. Especially if several other people pipe up and claim the advice is good. I’ve followed bad advice before and it cost me several months of progress.
And yes, I realize some coaches and personal trainers are weak and small but still have good advice. It is just easier for me personally to sift through it all when the person giving the advice made it to “the promise land”.
(Sorry for the hijack. Carry on)
Very interesting replies. Another thing I was pondering. Along with all the wealth of knowledge presented in some of the posts about the biochemistry of supplements and food… are a lot of people on here biochemists or registered dieticians?
What education do most people have on these forums? It would be interesting to see how credible some of the information posted on the T-Nation forum is.

I couldn’t agree more. Pics should be a requirement. Credibility is important. Especially when taking advice. With all due respect to ‘170 lb guy with hawt abz’ I really don’t care to hear what you have to say when threads are discussing how to gain size and strength.
I wish forums required pics. I think it would solve a lot of problems…

Agreed. I find it suspect when someone doesn’t have any pics of themselves for public viewing. Especially if they’re spewing advice every which way. I can’t help but get the feeling they’re hiding something. If you look good, why wouldn’t you wanna show it? No pic and no stats…HMMMMMM
Although I don’t agree with the 170 lb reference as I’m about that weight myself!

Eh, you can steal pics. Maybe if everyone had a spoon in it…

This site attracts people in a variety of fields: doctors and nurses to lawyers and accountants (as well as cartoonists, telemarketers, computer repairmen, etc…).
Perhaps if you provide a link to the posts in question we would be better able to satisfy your curiosity,
lol… yeah, I know. But you’re also an exception.

You look way bigger than 170, that’s impressive.

lol…but i know what ur saying
I think that everyone should realize that you cannot put everyone who lifts weight into one catagory. You cannot compare a person who is juiced up with a person who is completely natural.
I say you must compare a juiced up person with another juiced up person and a natural person with another natural person. I myself am a natural bodybuilder who wieghs 235 pounds at 6ft 2inches. Those stats are decent, I know I still have more room to grow and weight to gain to enter into the “BIG” club, buy those stats are really low if I tried to compare myself to a person who is juiced up. So I say lets try to keep the apples away from the oranges.
I also note that I do not take any supplements of any kind nor protein supplements besides the daily multivitamin. I am proud to say that I came a long way from the days that I weighed 140 pounds at 6ft 2inches.
There aren’t too many competitive bodybuilders who post on here, but there are a few impressive physiques nonetheless.
Prisoner, who doesn’t post much on here anymore, is probably the closest thing to a pro bber we have. He is a national level competitor in Canada and I’d put money on him to get a pro card before the rest of us.
I need another 20-25lbs before I’m a national threat…
There are some big guys on here like X for example who many mistake for a pro bber lol
I know what you mean tho…there is a lot of knowledge but not necessarily a lot of great physiques. Another thing to keep in mind is those often with the best physiques doesn’t mean most knowledgeable…genetics still play a huge role.
anyways my .02

Who was talking about steroids? Or comparing those evil juicing cheaters to natural lifters who actually work for their gains??

At the same time you should be able to determine what is bad advice and what is good advice (assuming you have some knowledge on exercise and nutrition)

I am certain you would skip some peoples posts if they had themselves as their avatar. The posts you’d be most interested in reading would be from the guys in the best shape. Usually the guys who are worth reading.

I bring up that topic because the post was talking about impressive physiques and as I look on the rate your physique I see many people who are put down just because they do not the have the same mass as a juiced up lifter. Their results are impressive but since they decide to stay natural many people seem to put them down.

they get put down because they don’t have the mass of a juiced up lifter?? the majority don’t have ANY MASS at all! they get put down because they post pics wayyyy too early. they haven’t even made a dent and they’ve got pics up asking for critique. critique what?? you haven’t built anything yet!
and the advanced lifters who post and get very high ratings don’t even look like “juiced up” lifters so i can’t agree at all with your assessment at all.
No juice, it’s just creatine, son.

My issue with this is that not everyone with a good physique can truely break it down and tell you what’s good and what’s bad. Some have damn good genetics and got by simply by doing what someone else told them. I’ve also had the fortune/misfortune to meet alot of bodybuilders/trainers/etc in my life and alot of them had damn good physiques but not everyone of them had a clear mind or the intelligence to truely help you.
Some could grab you and spend a day with you and show you but to get by where the written word and expression was necessary to lay down the plan they’d fail and fail big time…

Sadly, the majority of the people who seem to be so obsessed with acting like every study they find is the foundation for a new school of thought apparently don’t have any of those credentials.

People get put down in RMP because they look awful, have no mass, or post crappy myspace shots of their sick abz, not because they are natural.
I don’t check RMP much, but from what I’ve seen, when someone does post an impressive physique, someone eventually says they must be on steroids.
