Hahaha I saw them live once, really intense gig at a small place with like 300 people. The singer is insane, he was all over the place, hanging from the lights and stuff. This is another band I didn’t really like at first but my coworker still dragged me to their show, seeing them live really changed my opinion about them. Yea man they are nuts. I saw them live in a small club as well, the singer threw a water bottle at some kid and it made the kids head explode.
Too bad their music is going in a really gay driection. Seems like they are trying like hell to get on the radio so they are losing a lot of intensity and ditching the jazz chord progressions in their songs so that its all easier to listen to. Calculating Inifinity was my favortie cd. Under the Running Board was great as well. Pretty musch anything before Miss Machine(which wasnt too terrible) is ridiculous.

This is actually far from the truth, there have even been studies that show the complete opposite. For example, one study among college students found that the ones whose musical preference were alternative rock or metal scored above average on IQ tests. They scored especially well on abstract questions. It’s not just one study either, there have been several cases where high intelligence was found among metal listeners.
While I don’t take those studies very seriously I have actually found cases that support them in real life. Some of the most intelligent and successful people I know are into extreme metal.
The stereotype about the mindless meathead is also bullshit. Becoming truly strong takes dedication, people with such dedication tend to do pretty well not only in sports but also life in general.

I agree with Matsa, there were a lot of metalheads at MIT back in my day. Once you go a little deeper than the stuff played on the hard rock radio stations, there is a lot of complex metal out there. In fact, what I enjoy most about technical metal is that you don’t know how a song is going to play out on the first listen. Albums of poppy verse-chorus-verse-chorus-break-chorus structure last about 5 listens, whereas a good tech-death album can take upwards of 30 spins before I’m sick of it.
You can find studies proving or disproving anything and its nice to see the rumor mill churning, MIT Metal Heads? Yeah the janitors.
There will always be tiny genres and sub cultures in every day society. It doesnt mean your special or have a higher IQ. It means you are able to put up with something sub-par for longer periods of time. You like Sh1t music. Its OKAY to admit it. You will never see it on an awards show or talked about in mainstream life. Other than 1 message board thread where the idiots gather to praise their so called music. You think that it is cool that your music isnt mainstream because the majority opinion sucks. I wont argue against that, the majority are normally sheep that listen to Pop.
