More I learn Less I know

A photo of my daughter taken yesterday before Sr. Prom.
She ran into my room last night at 1:00AM and excitedly announced that she and her date were elected Prom King and Queen. A very large High School.
She is the coolest kid you’ll ever meet. Very down to earth, smart and unpretentious. Takes mission trips every year to help build homes in Nicaragua. Headed to a private Christian College.

I have no fricken idea what I did right with this one, but she makes the world a better place.

Man - time flies.
Beautiful daughter, OP. It sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders and took some good teaching from Dad. That makes it easier for both of you. Not to mention how much that is going to help her in life.

Good work with the shirt. I will stop by more often and keep up on what you are doing. Take care and stay strong.

Correcto mundo - Its IPF/USAPL certified single ply Titan F6 - competition fit.

The shirt was too large for the guy I picked it up from. He said it was broken in, but my arm size is an inch larger than what they make in a 44 and we had a bitch of a time getting it over my elbows, even with grocery sacks.

I think I’m going to be breaking it in a bit more.
How arched are you when you bench raw? also, single ply shirts are a measely $100 investment, you might due well getting one a size or two up to get the groove down. Also, if you plan on sticking with this, up your board work and tricep and lat work a little.

Beautiful, bright daughter, too. Amazing how good they can still turn out with all the distractions of the modern world.
So, you’ve succumbed to the lure of the gear, huh? Good benching.

Nice benching, I have no where near enough patience to learn how to use gear.

I still need to learn how to lift raw.

Pete,

I think most would say I have a low arch. I try to get as much arch as I can while keeping my butt on the bench and heels down.

I think I was bringing the bar down too high on the chest. I think the groove for the shirt is more towards the stomach.

I’m not planning on competing geared for a while. It will take some time to get use to a shirt let alone a squat suit.

Here’s what I noticed -
It seems impossible to move the elbows down and takes a lot of weight on the bar to get the elbows to bend even 90 degrees. Beyond that, you are pulling the weight down hard to the chest. There’in is the need for lots of back strength.

Once the bar is low to the chest, there isn’t a rebound coming up but the weight feels about 60% of its actual at the bottom.

Coming up, the bar gets progressively heavier fast and the last 6 inches or so is probably close to actual weight. There’in is the need for lots of board pressing and Tricep strength.

I’ll probably compete Raw and Geared. The training for each is different and I think focusing on just geared lifting could actually bring down my raw lifts simply because the training is different.

Thanks everyone for checking in and the kind words about my pride and joy.

OP I just wanted to thank you for your work with the mods, it looks like they finally created a separate sub forum for T Replacement issues! Once again thank you and my sincere thanks to all those that finally got this change to happen.

Had a lot of PM’s with Mod Laurie and LowfatMatt. Gave KSman a heads up as well.

A new T-Replacement Forum - Awesome! They really do listen and care.

I’ve been in Germany for the last few weeks and hadn’t checked in for a while.

Thank them via PM for the effort when you get a chance. Mods and Lowfat Matt are seldom thanked and they do a ton of hard work here.

Hoping this helps make the forum a better place for all.

Done! and thank you for your efforts!

I’ve been bad…really bad…I’m here to confess my transgression, but hopefully there is some indulgences to make up for it.

I left for Germany because I had to set up our Euro base for my company and do some speaking at a convention. I didn’t lift more than Hefe Weizen, Pilsner and tons of bratwurst. I really needed the deload because my right shoulder, biceps, left IBT and erector were bitching at me. Cold deadlifts to blame and I need to learn somethin bout lifing old.

In the mean time my rants to the Mods and Lowfat Matt didn’t go unnoticed. I had given up on this place and much to my surprise the “powers that be” concluded that training logs and hormone issues should probably be separated. Pretty cool and maybe my sins are covered.

Tonight my youngest graduated from HS and I’m a proud papa. More Pilsner Stateside.

Time to get back to the iron.
God Bless Y’all - He has done good with me.

Hope you enjoyed Deutschland. Miss the Vaterland every now and then. My mother still makes up a huge batch of homemade weiss and bratwurst a couple of times a year. Thought something looked different about the forum. Thanks for your work on that. Congrats to the youngest.

AH beer and bratwurst. Makes the world go round. Its good to give your body and mind a rest and enjoy yourself. I doubt it killed you, prolly will help with your focus in the gym. Now that you have been away and not thought about lifting, get your ass back and lift heavy stuff.

Having fun with the shirt ?

Dude if my daughter grows up to be anywhere near as smart, pretty and level headed as yours I am going to be a basket case. Damn!!

What does your company do?

Something I found on gear.

Thanks for checking in y’all.
Fischer - I haven’t put on the shirt since my last log. I had some more business travel and its been a full three weeks since I’ve had a good workout. I needed some rehab time but its good to be back. Been feeling tendon pain in the right shoulder, left erector, biceps, and ITB’s. Sucks getting old. I run marketing for a tech startup.

Good article UN and I agree with the premise of using a looser shirt for training. It will be a while before I try competing with gear. I’m in no hurry because I have other near term goals to accomplish this year, namely better flexibility, a stronger core, and getting all of the supporting little muscles and tendons use to heavier loads.

5 x 205
5 x 240
5 x 275

BBB:
5 x 10 x 165

10 x 50
10 x 40

Pull Downs:
10 x 135
10 x 150

Ice on the shoulder. I was very careful with it, but I think the dips aggravated it a bit.
Interesting that the layoff really effected my Tricep endurance more than anything. My triceps can get strong fast, but weaker equally as fast.

Squat Day

Squats:
Warmup - Bike 10min, stretching, bar x ?, 10x135, 5x185

Working Sets:
5 x 225 - Low Box squats to get my form right.
3 x 250 - something snapped in my upper/inner hamstring area and my hip popped. Felt kinda good but weird. I stopped to walk it out.
5 x 250
5 x 285 - Got the elbows way forward and it tightened me up real good. Sat back and they went up pretty fast.

BBB:
4 x 10 x 225

Good Mornings:
10 x 115
10 x 135
10 x 135 - Hammie that snapped over another muscle on squats started cramping a little so I didn’t push up the weight.

Standing Calf: On a 4" platform, heels hanging - smith machine
15 x 285
15 x 315
10 x 355

Seated Calf:
15 x 3 plates
10 x 4 plates
10 x 4 plates
8 x 4 plates

Bunch of hanging leg raises and hypers.

Great workout even though I wasn’t super motivated to go to the gym today. Felt good to do squats after 3 weeks layoff.

I’m gunna pay tomorrow fo sho.

Was really winded on the BBB sets but it felt good to crank the sets out. Reps 6 to 10 on each set was a bear.

I feel re-ju-vi-nate-ed and ready for some BBQ. Thank you Lord for Iron, Cows and hot coals.

So much going on. I apologize for not keeping up on everyone’s logs. I can barely squeeze in my own.

Daughter graduating HS then promptly leaves for a mission trip.
Family from all over the US in my house.
Son deploying to Afghanistan tomorrow for his third tour.
Me traveling all over the place.

Next week it settles back down slightly…finally.

I think thats about it. Oh some Ab Raises off the bench.

Pretty sore and stiff from the Squat work Tuesday. Gotta luv it.

So my wife bought me one of those Nordstrom short sleeve, plaid, metro button down shirts that don’t tuck in. Spose to be cool and make me look younger. Fricken thing must be made for boys with 13 inch arms. Think I’ll use it for a 1/64th ply bench shirt.

They are made for ‘boys’ with 13" arms!!!

Great training OP. Great work your son and daughter are doing. You must be so proud. I hope your shoulder behaves. I’ve found it tough lately to keep up with everyones’ threads as well.
