Lifts are really moving, OP. You’re gonna do that mantard proud.
Good tip on those money set rep goals.

Thanks OG, U42, LS, JW, and JK I’m very happy with the progress so far. After deload I start my 3rd cycle. I’ve reviewed my log since Jan and things are look’in positive.
For the last two cycles I’ve based my 1RM’s on the following:
cycle 1 → cycle 2.
Bench 330 → 335 (Current PR of 6x285) = 342
Squat 315 → 325 (Current PR of 5x280) = 326
MP 190 → 195 (Current PR of 8x155) = 196
Deads 250 → 275 (Current PR of 3x295) = 325
For cycle 3 I’m moving my 1RM calcs to:
Bench 345
Squat 335
MP 200
Deads 335
Gained 4lbs since Jan. consistant 194lb. Countdown to 51 y.o., 5 months.
Gunna push hard this cycle. Got a bunch-o bitnez travel coming up this spring.
Money Set Goals:
Week 1 - 9 reps
Week 2 - 7 reps
Week 3 - 5 reps[/quote]
Nice work…and good planning. I like to have goals on the money set as well, even though right now I’m doing the money set a little differant. I’m doing 9 sets at the top weight of the day, then maxing on the 10 set. It seems, for me, to be working a bit better than BBB at lighter weights, at least for now.
Looking positive, indeed. Great work and a good looking plan.
51? I wouldn’t have guessed. How old were you when the 1st young’un came along? I thought I was a late starter, at 31. I was 36 when my youngest got here. I thought that was late, but several of the guys here proved that wrong.
Meta - Those rep goals are calculated to reach your 1RM. They should be really tough to reach and if you hit them, you’ve hit your cycle goal.
Ruglayer - Thats a lot of sets! Is that a Wendler option or something you’ve tailored? As long as its working thats all that matters.
LS - Thanks. Yep, I’m an old fart. My son is 23 doing his third tour in the Army. Daughter is 19 and starting college this year. House is empty for the first time in 24 years. I don’t think you are late. There are a lot of guys my age with kids in middle school.
C2/W4 Deload
40 minutes of mobility work - stretching and rolling everything.
Bench Press:
5x20x105 just to get the blood flowing
Have a good week y’all.
Just got off the phone with my USAPL Rep. She is going to hook me up with the local Uni PL coach for a little 1:1 to prep for my first meet. How good is that!
First opportunity is the Texas State PL Championship April 17.
The only problem is I’m traveling West Coast the week before and East Coast the week after. Very tight timing.
Gunna order the Manotard, wrist and knee wraps anyway.
Anybody else from Texas going? Whatever happened to Jimmy and his crew?

That sounds great. Could you get a couple of light workouts in the week before the meet?
Don’t order knee wraps unless you plan on entering the equipped division. Raw in the USAPL is belt, wrist wraps, and neoprene knee sleeves only.
Great lifting, OP. I seriously envy your bench and squat. Good luck in the meet.
Nice goings-on over here Powers! sorry i haven’t been paying attention
You really benefit from the coaching prior to your meet, I wish I had thought of that.
Thanks guys - looks like I’m on the journey.
I weighed in at 196 this morning. Crap.
Never been this heavy and with all the strength gains I need for deads and squats, its going to put me well over the top of 198 unless I start watching what I eat.
Big decisions ahead. Jump a weight class or start fat burning/watching the diet. I don’t have much of a belly to lose. Then again, at my age I really don’t give a shit either way. Just happy to be healthy.
Is the meet in Arlington?
I would not worry too much about the weight class. Eat enough to make you stronger and see where you are at a few weeks out. Its not hard to play with water weight if you are a few pounds over. If you find yourself at 210-215 a few weeks out, then its time to pig out until you hit 220!
Texas PL Championships Arlington.
Good advice JK.
Not sure if I can get there in time, but worth a shot.

Not a Wendler option, per se, but I tend to get more out of the sets at top daily weight. What I do, however, is keep the number of other excercises to a min to offset the work. Also, with my back in ‘limbo’ as it were, I can afford to do more upper work and not affect my recoverablility. Right now I have to limit lower work to med weight pulls and machine work for my legs. I have a ‘hyperextension’ problem in my lower back that doesn’t seem to want to get better so the smart move, I hope, is to keep the bar off my shoulders for a while.
So when is the Arlington meet, thats just down the road and something I would love to see.

There’s also a Masters National Meet in Killeen at the end of April.
Can’t win or lose unless you run the race.
Will this be your very first ever in your whole life meet or just since you’ve become a mature responsible adult? Either way, kudos for taking the plunge.
Hel - This is another life first to check off on the bucket list. Won’t be the last either, unless I wear a pink shirt.
Thanks - Not certain which meet yet, but it’s definitely happening this year.
Working a program, hitting the gym and developing good form just isn’t complete without competing.
Edit - I left maturity and responsibility behind after I turned 50. As long as nobody gets hurt, life is more fun without them.
Damn straight OP. Sometimes you’ve jsut got to say “What the hell?” and do it.
Sorry for the picture screw up. Damn, I look fatter than the fish.
That big boy was heavy though. Had to use a lot of gut power to hold him up.
Nice 'un OP. Were you top water fishing?
