Coach Davies do you still do renegade training yourself?

Read “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. He talks about some of his workouts.

I’ve communicated with Coach Davies through email, and he’s told me of some of the workouts he has had recently. Absolutely brutal.

and miss the “fun” - no way. Hey, I just got back from a nice little morning session and will follow-up later with sprint work in the afternoon and bag work at night. I love training as well as many sports activities. If I can’t perform an exercise or training session, I would have a hard time recommending it. How is your training going? In faith, Coach Davies

Coach Davies…

You are THE MAN!

enough said.

My training is going well. I’m not a full blown renegade, but I have incorporated some of what you do into my own training. I am having shoulder problems as of late so that has cut down on what I can do. But as I always say, if you’re squatting deep and taking solid shits what more can you ask for?

Hey coach, I have a heavy bag that I recently set back up…how do you recommend that I incorporate it into renegade workouts. My goals right now are developing funtional strenth and power and improving my body composition.

thanks for your time

Hey nice to hear someone else use’s a bag. I consider this more for fun and a stress reliever rather than training, although it is great workout. I personally like to hit a heavy bag in the evenings of the days I lift often followed by additional GPP. I use 3 minute rounds with 1 minute breaks, working on jab, combo and hook patterns, with emphasis on punch count. I generally box for 6 rounds, which is just fine because it is only 24 minutes. Let me know how your own training is going! In faith, Coach Davies

Coach Davies, I picked up a few old tires and an axe. What manner should I use these in? Should I just go for time or go for number of chops? Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply coach…I haven’t used the bag in a long time, but i’m looking forward to adding it in. I am really just starting to ease my way into renegade training after a long layoff and several failed attempts at getting back into a regular workout schedule. I hope to start competing in masters track and field (decathlon) this summer, but I have to get back into shape first. Have you worked with many older athletes? I am thirty and feel like I can still be very strong and explosive, but I haven’t really been in that kind of shape in about five years. I also have had a two year layoff with minimal exercise and hernia surgery since then.

Any comments for other middle aged t-mag readers who had to get back in shape would be great. I hate to think that my best is already behind me.

Kevin, take the axe and chop the tire ! you are working in rounds of 3 mins swapping leading chop hand every 15-20 chops! Do pushups , burpee’s, mtn climbers etc as active rest for 1 min.

Happy Training and Productive workouts!

Thanks FFB. I look forward to starting with it come Tuesday. Do you use this as your weighted gpp? At the end or beginning of your workout?

How about a baseball bat instead of an axe? Any reason not to do this?

Kevin - I use wood chopping as a form of weighted GPP, post strength training. I rarely advise this this form of GPP, do to the extreme nature. However, I work in 3 minute round intervals. You will find this very taxing, so take some time and caution. If you are chopping on a tire - I would suggest resting the tire on a natural surface and not concrete. If you want to go through any specifics, please email me and we can discuss. In faith, Coach Davies

much better to use a bat!!!In faith, Coach Davies
