More and More Betas at My Gym

My opinion of ‘alpha’: Strong of will, body, and mind. If you do not have all three, then you are not an ‘alpha’. An alpha would be making a high income, highest level in your profession (M.D, CSCS, PHD, ect), mentally as tough as nails, persuasive, and a physical beast.

I would consider the orthopedic surgeon known throughout the state/region, working as much as much as possible while fitting in family, and training that also has a 500 pound squat an alpha.

I do not consider the strong as fuck guy an alpha, I do not consider the guy with a PHD in biology a alpha, I do not consider the ballsy guy an alpha, I consider the strong as fuck with a PHD in biology, and a set of balls made out of steel an alpha.

To the assholes calling each other betas, go better yourself to make yourself feel better. Don’t make someone else look worse to feel better.

However, if we want to talk about bettas I would be more than happy to continue.

Concur.

Long story, but I had this weird interaction with a series of women* Sunday during a volunteer event I got dragged into by my gym, all of whom acted like I was about to attack them, were rude, condescending, and talked down to us.

At first I thought it was a Jewish thing (beard, kippa, black clothes, curly black hair, big honking nose), but then realized they were treating my workout friend (a fireman) who is a gentile of the Aryian variety the same way and not treating this little overtly, almost comedically, gay dude rudely.

It was my first experience with anti-sizeism/anti-masculanism.

  • They were the little fragile volunteer women that you working for or volunteering for “causes” when they are not vacationing at the Hamptons.

Like the fish!!!

From my understanding, Alpha/Beta is solely a function of how many hot women you can attract/bed.

One of my friends is scrawny as hell, doesn’t earn anything outlandish, but has local celebrity status as a result of being a DJ. He’s known within the scene.

Due to this status, he has a lot of easy pussy come his way.

Even though he’s sorely lacking in physical makeup (short and scrawny), has no education past a high school diploma and doesn’t have an especially high income, I would still label him as “alpha.”

What you have listed are pursuits alphas tend to pursue, but it isn’t what makes them an alpha.

If being an alpha is being a tremendous douche, then I am a Beta…COME AT ME ALPHAZZZZ

This is completely in line with my belief of what an alpha is. The holy trinity of manliness: brains, brawn and balls.

Point is … our culture (much more so in Europe for that matter) is churning out a generation of some very weak dudes … and I’m seeing more and more of them at the gym …

How many times have you been in Europe?

The high income or educational credentials I have a problem with. I know a lot of men that don’t have a fancy education to show off but with regards to their field you would be hard pressed to find someone that knows more, men like farmers, mechanics, carpenters. All extremely Alpha but wouldn’t be by your definition.

An alpha farmer would know how to sell himself well, establish a great clientele, and become extremely proficient. He would definitely be raking in the dough. Hell, even farmer’s can make bank if they use the laws to their advantage, and etc.
A smart/alpha man knows how to get the most out of his profession/career.

There are a lot of people who are making a living farming, but not making a killing. Small operation farmers will rarely if ever break into the market of the big guys because they don’t have the resources to withstand the competitions moves to hold them down. He could try it, and he might succeed, however, a man with responsibilities cant take risks that might result in putting those he is responsible for in hardship. I dunno, I still disagree with you on money being part of an alpha requirement, what about preachers. Most of them I would consider alpha, they have to be to lead a group of people and remain strong in their convictions, however, most of them outside of the crook evangelists do not make very much at all.

Pfff. Weak Europeans.

I think the OP has made a valid observation. Reams and reams of academic studies over the last 10-15 years have examined the so called “emasculinization” of society from every conceivable angle (ie. decreased testosterone levels, smaller testicle size, lowered muscle mass, blurring of traditional gender roles, etc.).

I’m not that old (32) but even in my lifetime, I’ve noticed changes in the way that typically masculine traits and behaviors are viewed. It seems, as other posters have noted, that traits such as agression, competitiveness, stoicism etc. are looked at every passing year with more and more disdain. The “ideal” man in society’s eyes seems to be morphing into a more and more feminine creature both physically and socially.

Men are encouraged to be sensitive and consensus-builders as opposed to assertive and emotionally-controlled, while the ideal physique both in men’s and women’s eyes often seems to be a very lean and almost waifish build that would snap in a high wind (if I have to hear another man or woman say that David Beckham is the pinnacle of manliness I’ll figure out a way to run myself over). Anyways, I’ve come to realise lately that just because I value something doesn’t mean that everyone else has to as well.

It would just be a little encouraging to not be viewed as a dinosaur by the majority of my friends and family just because I think every physically healthy male should have a minimum level of physical aptitude and competitive spirit.

FACEPALM but I’ll give it a shot anyway!

Now how does a guy like that fair in average european society? Not too well, Shunned, and looked down upon for being an insensitive gargoyle.

The traditional definition of an alpha always includes assertiveness, great mental strength/fortitude, powerful drive and strength of will, and incredible confidence. Note that I did not say arrogance. Arrogance can seem similar to confidence, but they’re quite different.

If you have all of the above, then there’s really no reason why you cannot succeed in anything you do. This includes farmers, mechanics, and carpenters. Farmers may be harder to succeed at nowadays because you need a fuck-ton of money, but I know a good number of mechanics and carpenters who built their own little empires out of scratch.

It’s possible to make a comfortable living and achieve “success”(however you want to define it) in any field you choose, provided that you’re a genuine bona fide alpha instead of one disguised as an alpha like so many people in society.

Again, how much time have you spent in Europe or with Europeans? I only lived there for 20 years, and trust me, no one gives a fuck if you’re jacked or not, there are more important thing to worry about it.

Only in america do people give a fuck this much about the sizes, because in America it’s a problem.
