It’s a good program when I can stick to it. I’m really interested to see how my bench press responds over time. A lot of people are reporting stalling of theirs while doing 5/3/1. My theory on that score is that they are spending their energy repping out on the top set.

What are these?
Fatman pullups without bending your arms and pushups without bending your arms. You can do them vertically too. Builds up all the little muscles around and under the shoulder blade.

Go to Eric Cressey’s website and look at all the shoulder articles - Shoulder Savers, Neanderthal No more, etc. You will actually be redirected to this site for some of the articles, but I found that a search on this site won’t have any search results containing links to those articles. There’s a treasure trove of corrective and strengthening exercises for the shoulders there. I will attempt to place a link to the site:
Bumper plates, lifting shoes… the next thing you know there will be a platform and and entry for a O-lifting meet soon to follow.
I agree with you about the money set on 5/3/1, how keeping it more sedate is beneficial. I haven’t taken it as far as you have, but I am holding more back on the money set and seeing good results.

That’s encouraging. I must follow your log more closely.

We’ll see, I guess.
My guess is the shoulder day is causing mayhem with the bench day. I had a an idea to put both lifts on same day and then use the second “upper” day as an accesorry lift day.
going all out is fine - just ask the guys doing dc and always getting stronger or bigger- thing is they do chest/shoulders same day.

just a thought
I’ve had similar thoughts about modifying either bench or MP into an upper assistance day, particularly as, historically, I’ve seemed to require a max day and a rep day to get my bench to move. But I don’t have enough training history to say that for sure. I’ll stick with the current strategy for a few more cycles and start modifying (experimenting) with the assistance day idea after that.

If I hadn’t been overcome by the glamour (old sense of the word - as in and enchantment or spell) of them I probably would have engaged my brain and gone the more frugal route. These were pretty cheap, just a little more than a new set of light hiking shoes. Okay, well, double.
I just wanted something to make me feel pretty, ok?
