??? (maybe Greek substituted for chinese would make more sense to me.)
Mr. Love Machine, your original idea on jerks (pushing under the bar) was more accurate than the more recent one. The only way to be faster than gravity getting under the bar is to push on it. Timing is again important. I no longer do this, but when learning to push under the bar, I would pause for a small fraction of a second between the drive and the push under. It gave me time for my feet to get in position and helped with direction of the push. Dipping and driving with tensed arms tends to push the weight forward.
Thanks Carl. I’ll work on keeping the arms loose when racked and on initiating the jerk. I should maybe be paying you for this advice. I have in fact been pushing the weight forward.
killer work tony. i wanna learn the oly lifts so I can be like the cool kids…

I just ferreted out your last C&J vid and I see what you’re talking about here.
I read a thread over in the Olympic lifting forum that said it’s a good idea to get the palms under the bar before the jerk, even if you have to adjust the elbows downwards. I’ve noted I have a little trouble seating the bar in my hand at the top of the jerk because I still have only fingertips touching in the rack position. I’m basically rolling the bar into my palm on the jerk. Is this worth doing or should I just get better at putting the bar in the right place on my hand?
P.S. I have no idea what she’s talking about either. I’m just being agreeable…
I agree with them on bar placement and grip at the start. Bar in palms, but with relaxed or even open hands, elbows lower than during the catch and recovery from the clean.

Carl - here’s my best 2 snatches from last night for critique if you’ve the inclination.
Still can’t seem to catch at the bottom, so I’m taking them down after catching to try and get the strength and flexibility to catch them there eventually.
Just ignore my gang sign there. I’m a member of the MehSoSo gang.

Cycle 4 Week 2 Day 2 - DL,3’s
Deadlifts (hook grip)
225x5
275x5
319x3
365x3
410x3 (last two mixed grip)
SLDL (hooked)
315 5x3 sets

Kneeling - 10x2
Figured how to hook so the pressure is less on the thumb. It hurts but is not intolerable.
I have never really figured out the hook grip. I’m impressed with anyone who can properly do it. Nice work on the deads.

Thanks, I was trying them a little differently today - clean-width grip, clean-width stance so they were a little harder than usual. The hook grip really does keep the bar from rolling in the hand and seems to be friendlier to my right shoulder and biceps. The latter has been tightening up over the last few weeks.
Elbows are much straighter when the bar is at your hips, the weight is further back over your head at the catch and recovery. Looking better. Keep working on it.
I don’t know if this is going on or not, but are you trying to pull the bar higher after the bar leaves your hips?
It is nice to offer technique suggestions and actually see work being done and improvements made. It doesn’t often happen. Thank you.

I think I must be, since I’m having such difficulty getting under it. The thought occurred to me that I should just pop the bar and drop.
The dislocates are helping a lot. I’m starting to move my hands closer on the dislocate bar. Hurts like hell to drop my hands below my shoulders in the back. When it doesn’t hurt I move my hands in more.
I try to follow advice I asked for
Looking forward to trying your tips on jerking on Thursday. My wife is sort of annoyed that I perform a split at random intervals when walking around the house, trying for that vertical shin…
