335 high bar squat

Seriously considering it myself. Hit my 2010 goals on squat and deadlift early. So I’ve got a free month to try something new. Been reading up on the John Broz approach today and I like the look of it. Squatting everyday (I love squatting), working up to a daily max etc. I think I’ll give it a go starting this week and if it works maybe carry on with it in the new year. Also been watching some slow motion vids of Antonio Krastev’s snatch on youtube for pointers.
Unbelievable.
EDIT: Just watched your squat. That was pretty good. Great depth. How do you concentrate with boxes in front of your face? LOL
If you guys haven’t already, you should try and get a copy of the World’s Fastest Lift: The Snatch, and the World’s Most Powerful Lift: Clean and Jerk. Awesome, awesome instructional DVD’s that break each lift down and show you how to build each lift with step-by-step drills for each phase. One thing they proved to me was just how technical the Oly lifts are.

What boxes?
Still waiting for the clean and jerk video to download, but after the first four, I see a very marked improvement in you cleans. You are intentionally going slower on the first pull and thereby keeping you arms from getting involved prematurely. Eventually you will want to speed up the first pull, but until your delayed arm involvement becomes automatic, you are doing the right thing. Do the same on the jerks. Delay involvement of your arms. Try to get your legs split far enough so that your left shin is vertical when you catch the jerk.
This is easier to do when your arms are not pushing up on the bar.
I hope you don’t mind my role as self appointed coach. Just say so and I’ll shut up.

Lord no! I was praying that you’d weigh in and hit me with some advice. Thank you very much. I realized yesterday that I’m attempting to push myself down when jerking, when what I’m supposed to be doing is CATCHING the bar at arms length. This means I need to split more, but the muscles in my groiny region are going to have to become better adapted to it over time. Lunges maybe?

Nice!
Thank GOD that dam monkey thing is gone…creepy it was! That is all.
But all videos should be posted like this, all those white boxes that I can’t watch are a bummer.
Love the big cat, and your lifting is great as always.

Z-Man! Glad you’re still around. I’ll try to post the raw vid instead of youtube going forward.

DCA - Nice squat!! Ass-to-GRASS!!
Q: What’s the advantage of snatchgrip RDL v. “normal” grip?
I like the white tiger avatar-- very statesmenlike ![]()

Thank you.
A: i have to use my hands to sit down right now.
Polls indicate the monkey was creepy, so i guess it’s good i changed it.
Plus I was born in the year of the tiger. I was hoping it a metal tiger year but alas I am a water tiger. The whole household here is tigers for that matter, so we have passionate, well thought arguments about monumentally inconsequential subjects on a regular basis.

Until Bunny changes his avatar from the disturbing dude with the long hair, tie, and not much else, you are in no danger of having the creepiest one.

Yeah - that one makes my neck hairs stand up, then reach for a gun. And I don’t own one.
I think that was the intended effect.
Was supposed to do MP’s today, but I’ve had fuck-all for sleep and I pulled my hamstring…putting on my knee sleeves. Putting. On. My. Knee. Sleeves.
So, of course, I did snatches.
Worked up to a couple of fugly, no-pop 155’s and bailed. MP’s tomorrow. Maybe.
Got my paperwork in for an upcoming contract and had a nice call from a consulting agency needing a mySQL DBA gig filled. We’ll see if the prospect likes the smell of my resume.
Pulling a hammie that way is way less lame than pulling a neck muscle while sleeping, thus leading to total incapacity. Luckily I haven’t done the latter in awhile.
I quite like the white tiger. Thumbs up on him. Best of luck with the work stuff. Annoying stuff, that.

I am a water tiger as well. I like to think it means that while we are badass mofos, we can still stay in touch with our feminine side, you know, be all sensitive and stuff.
Major in the monumentally inconsequential like adding pounds to my squat (oops, did I just commit blashemy there?), minor in the minimally momentous like death and taxes -yep, sounds familiar…

Sweet G.I. Jane reference…you must really love the classics.
LIking the new tiger as well- I mean how many albino photos are there-
dont look.
sucks about the Hammstrung…
good luck on the work front-
DCA,
I had to google mySQL DBA, because I believe technology is a fad and because I am retired so I have shut off my “learning” for the foreseeable future. However I always like to know what people are talking about. There sure are a lot of you tech guys on here, it truly boggles the mind. Nice way to nurse a hammy pull by the way, I like to practice ninja kicks, you do snatches, to each his own.
