Looking very strong. All the singles at opening weights must be doing a lot for your confidence. This meet is going to go smoothly.
Thanks Carl. At the very least, I’m certain I can hit my openers. First goal is a total. 2nd goal is an 1100 total.
With a comfortable 500lb deadlift and a 370lb squat this week, you should total way more than that.
Thanks for the encouragement, Farmer. I’m being intentionally cautious because I came in overconfident at my last two live meets and bombed out in both - the first at the bench press and the second in the squat - with a weight I was almost sneering at. Gonna stay small to start and then see how far I can go.

That’s amazing. All that volume. And a 500 DL with a chuckle at the top.
25 Hour Flatness. That’s where I usually train. It has a cage with my name on it.
I saw something interesting today regarding the rack. Some fella had set the catcher-bars up high and was doing what I call 1-Armed Viking presses. Pressing weight was on one end and the sleeve of the other end is on the catcher bar with a 2 25’s straddling that. Collar keeps the 25’s on. Grab the sleeve of the working end and press it up. Granted it was 8 inches above his shoulders at start, but it’s an interesting idea worth stealing.
If I’m picturing this right it sounds very similar to an old shot putters exercise. Laughing at the end of a lift now? Next thing you know you’ll be getting emotional at the beginning. just saying.
I’m heading there, Harry. I might even growl before I lift.

gotta love the 500# DL with the laugh - esp. when you were only to work up to openers…
I’ve got DL form just about pegged to where I’m not pulling until I’m in perfect position for my leverages to do so. Stuff feels like it’s flying up. That was the easiest 500 I’ve ever done - so easy I’m actually questioning whether the face value of the plates was correct. Hopefully I can get in enough practice before the meet to make it auto-magical.
After watching your vid, I was going to post about how spot on your DL form looks. The weird thing is your warm-up DLs don’t look as good as your heavy-assed DLs. Have you ever noticed that the form that “works well” for light weights don’t necessarily transfer to higher weights? (vice versa in your case) Or is it something that only “light weight” -literally- lifters like me notice.
I prefer Joweee’s squat form to your’s though.
Although I hear Rippetoe is planning to use your squat videos as a teaching tool.

Last but not least, excellent clean & press form!
It’s true my form is a bit looser on the lighter weights on deads (225 and 315). I’m pulling them fast and actually pushing them down at the top due to acceleration. For some reason that makes me keep my knees bent. The double overhand grip causes some minor changes as well.
I used to squat the way Joweee squats, since we had the same coach for a while. I’ve taken to this type of squat because it works better for my frame, leverages and strengths - I have a very strong back and rock the squat-morning as a result.

Great video Mr.DCA. That’s really an amazing amount of weight your pulling. Your still weighing in around 190?
Very very strong!
Thanks DZ. I’m hovering between 180 and 185 these days.
Made some squat boxes out of cinderblocks. I descended to them, rested the weight there and then ascended. Didn’t look quite parallel, but close enough.
