MMGALB727's Training Log

For those who are not exactly familiar with the Power Rope… here ya go!

Woah that looks like a killer workout especially the rope training.

Apologies if this is stupid and i didnt watch the whole vid but is someone standing on the other side holding the rope?

This also might sound stupid, but why 100 reps of back extensions? Just to see if you can?

Im happy things are looking UP!!
Hows your diet these days?

Is that enough questions? OO OO I have one more!! How do you get to meet and train with all these cool people? Is it through work?

Ok thats enough! ;}

Ooh! Ooh! I forgot to tell y’all! I am going to Indy to train with Mike Robertson next month! WHOO HOO! I am so pumped! There are three of us going and it should be a blast! I am a HUGE fan of his work but it is SO HARD to objectively assess yourself… so I will be interested to see what he has to say! It will also be a HUGE learning experience for me because in my circle I probably know as much or more about pre-hab as anyone else… and I am just barely scratching the surface.

I can’t wait to watch him assess my friends and take notes and expand my own knowledge base on it! (one has an ankle injury and the other just had knee surgery… and I am relatively healthy so we are a diverse group =D)

Indy… here we come!
there would be 4 of you going if you had told me the dates, asshole. i still have time to request off for january. HINT!!!
Why would we tell you the dates if we don’t want you to come? >=D

Haha kidding! Well we have to go on a Saturday as that’s is the only day that fits everyone’s schedules… but they are only open for a few hours every Saturday and he is devoting an hour to each person… plus he has to train that day too… so let me email him and see if he can “fit you in.” =D Do you think he can handle the 4 of us?

ok i just came outta the corner and wiped off the tears.

snatchbag.

It is SO great to hear how excited you are about feeling strong and kicking ass in the gym! I always learn something new over here. Power rope…wow.

Belini - That’s not stupid! It would actually be a killer workout for someone else if they could manage to hold onto it without hurting themselves… but I just wrap it around the leg of the Reverse Hyper or some other piece of heavy equipment that is out of the way.

Mom-in-Md - the high rep back extension/reverse hyper thing started because I was remembering how Stuart McGill (a bad-ass spine expert) has talked about how important it is to build ENDURANCE in the lower back before you even try to build STRENGTH. Well, I felt like my lower back was pretty strong but I couldn’t remember the last time I did anything for endurance. so I thought I would train that for a while. Now it feels like a fun challenge to try and beat my reps each week… I will probably only do it for a while longer and then throw it in occasionally to make sure I can still do it.

Diet is good… I have tried to eliminate what was on my list that I am allergic to… but that crap is in everything! Did you know Tic-Tacs have RICE in them? WTF? I also didn’t realize that my toothpaste contains peppermint oil (DUH! but I just didn’t think about it!) Plus almond flour hides in a lot of stuff… so I am trying to be super careful but in the beginning I wasn’t doing so well b/c all of my allergens were lurking in stuff. It’s nice because I am eating however much I feel like eating on any given day. I would like to lean out a bit more… but I am not going to stress about it until the holidays are over.

Getting to train with good people is a mix of luck and putting myself out there. I live in a pretty good location close to where lots of cool coaches live (Ohio is a HOTBED for them). The Louie Simmons/Westside experience was just because we had a gaggle of cute girls at a powerlifting meet and we asked to have out picture made with him and he decided to take us to Westside for an impromptu training session! =D

I actually email Mike and Asked if he would do an assessment with us… so that is how that happened. We are paying him for his time! But I would love to get to know him better as I REALLY respect his work!

Kimba - thanks! Yeah I am super lucky that my gym is STOCKED with every cool piece of equipment you could want (except a belt squat… but my boyfriend’s gym has that and I can “jimmy” one up at my gym if I have to… =D)

Molly question for you or anyone else who knows, I tried to Barbell Bridge raise exercise but couldnt find a place to “rest” the barbell that didnt hurt. It hurt along my hip bone and it hurt lower and then I had trouble rolling it off me haha. But anyway, where do you rest it?

Belini, I rest the bar in the “crease” where my legs meet my pelvis. But that will hurt like hell if don’t wrap a pussy pad or a thick towel around the bar first.

Belini - I also rest it in the “crease” which is a little lower than my hip bone… and like Kimba I wrap a towel around the bar… Everyone says it hurts like hell… but I don’t remember thinking it was that bad… You gotta use BIG plates or it’s impossible to roll off of you! I tried to use 35’s one time and I kept getting stuck! =D

So I can’t remember if I have :thought: about talking about this on here or if I actually have… so forgive me if I repeat myself… but I have recently become addicted to JUICING! (as in vegetables, not steroids)
My Mom got me a very expensive juicer for my birthday and about 3 weeks ago my boyfriend and I started juicing religiously! It started with just carrots and spinach and celery because that’s what we used to get when we would get fresh juice from our local co-op… but I have recently added broccoli, swiss chard, beets and kale. As long as you use at least 4 oz of carrot juice, the juice is totally palatable.

My boyfriend actually enjoys the taste while I find it just bearable enough to drink (I drink it VERY quickly through a straw and wash it down with water afterward). Anyway, point is, I have felt better than in the last few weeks than I have in almost a year. I didn’t necessarily notice a “light-switch” effect of feeling completely better immediately… I just kind of looked back over the last few weeks and noticed that I had more energy, more motivation to lift, stronger workouts, and had been in a better mood than I had been in forever.

Of course I think that all of these thinks are cyclical… the more energy I have, the better my lifts go, the more motivated I am, the happier I am, the more energy I create… and so on… but I definitely think it’s worth noting. In fact, I have been lifting on an “empty” stomach quite a bit lately (only juiced veggies, tea, BCAAs) and having great workouts… hmmmm… interesting… =D

Anyway, thought I should share!

juiced veggies…very brave! although i love me some V8 but the sodium is ridiculous!

I have never tried V8… I am not big on tomato juice at all! BLECH! What other veggies are in there? Yeah I have heard that there is tons of sodium in there… I use sea salt liberally but sodium chloride? no thanks! =D (which is what I would assume is in there…?)

I actually have to go to the grocery now and get more veggies for today… anyone have any good ideas of other veggies to juice? I am trying to use veggies that are best in the winter so they will be local and more fresh…?

Oh yeah, one of my old training partners called me yesterday and wants to train again! She is only 19, but played soccer her whole life and squatted 200 lbs after about 2-3 weeks of weight training (B*TCH!) =D she has taken a few months off but wants to get back into it! YAY! We are deadlifting tonight! =D

That lends a whole new meaning to pussy pad, doesn’t it!

ha ha ha! I see what you did there.

Totally true though.

Wow, you’re really strong. Good job.

Haha yes Cal, yes it does!

Thanks Deadman! =D

So I had a bit of a rough day today… some personal issues came up and I had a pretty upsetting day. Normally I am VERY steady-freddy… so it’s weird for me to get really upset. Anyway… I still wanted to hit the gym and lift… especially b/c I made plans with my old training partner. It was Deadlift day and I was pretty excited! Had an OK day… my grip became a little issue (sweaty hands and I cant use chalk b/c I have a major chalk phobia)… so my grip was distracting me and my form went out the window a bit… plus I was tired and stressed… I was HOPING to pull 245 for 9 or 10… I only got it for 7 =( Oh well… still not a bad day I guess. Here was everything:

Conventional Deadlift
Warm-up
3 reps @ 215
3 reps @ 230
7 reps @ 245

Kroc Rows
1 set of 24 reps @ 80 lbs (up 9 reps from last week =D)

Prowler
5 trips of 50 yds each, no weight, high handles, 20-40 seconds rest in between

That’s all I had in me folks…

Bad days happen even to the steady-freddy. I hope today is better, and that 7 reps at 245 helped brighten your day.

It sure would’ve brightened mine!
