DUDE! I totally just squatted yesterday… Hmmm… maybe I bench tomorrow, Then figure out what to do based on my SCHEDULE! Or maybe you squat, I deadlift? Oh well… we will see!

Yes I do prob wanna see G… but have to pencil him in to my awesomely busy life ;D

Oh… I call him Eddy… not Ed… that’s why I was like WTF>!> Now don’t go breaking his lil’ heart now, ya hear? He is my buddy!

MAYBE we go to dinner… maybe you go to dinner, order 3 entrees, get 1.5 of them boxed up, let him pay and bring it home for me to eat? =D haha KIDDING! (kind of! =-/ )

nlmain - haha yeah I know! It’s gotta be something… as weird as it sounds, I have been juicing like crazy lately (as in, drinking juiced veggies… not taking steroids! haha) and they have been giving me so much energy! It’s been awesome! That’s really the only thing I have changed lately… and I hit rep PR’s on deads, bench and squats in 1 week! =D

Kimba - Oh yes ma’am! I train wide, ultra-wide, moderate and close stance, regular, heel-elevated, etc. They all challenge your muscles a bit differently and ultimately make you stronger in every position. I compete with a moderately wide stance, but have done some of my strongest squats with more of a moderate to close stance (don’t compete this way because I am not most confident/comfortable this way despite the numbers I have put up in this position…) Same reason that I traing sumo, conventional, snatch grip, deficit, rack and lots of other kinds of deadlifts, and same with all bench variations. Keeps things interesting too! =D

A follow-up question if I may. Did you train all these various varieties of squats and deads even when you were a newbie lifter, trying desperately to learn form or did you wait until you mastered one form of these lifts before branching out?

ok, ok, we’ll deadlift. SHEESH.

G- home now, so no worries. you’ll see him soon enough.

with as upfront and completely honest as i am, how can i possibly break anyones heart? you assume the worst of me, Molls, and I dunno how i feel about that.

I can def bring you home some food. He’s discussed the idea of making me get dressed up n girly, despite the exponentially foul effect on my language and humor, just to see what it’d be like. which means you may have to tell me what im allowed to wear. and post bail.

Kimba - Honestly, in the beginning, I did whatever my bf told me to do =P I didn’t know any different… and at the time he was a T-Nation addict and was trained by Christian Thibadeau… so I listed to everything he said and never asked any questions (he is now an ex =D).

If I am remembering correctly, I would do different variations of squats/deads at times… but mainly stuck to moderately wide-stance box squatting and free squatting… and did LOTS of different deadlifts variations (mainly b/c I did NROL for a while and did deficit deadlifts, snatch grip deadlifts, rack pulls, etc)

But I DO think that just mastering “the basic squat” and “the basic deadlift” first is pretty important before trying lots of fancy schmancy stuff…

YAY! We deadlift!

Yeah, I already got a friggin’ email from G… thanks to you he has my email address! awesome. NOT! ;D

You can break Eddy’s heart by being your fabulous and lovable self, and making him fall head over heels for you despite your honesty about not being interested/not being ready for a relationship/not being 100% female/not wanting anything serious… etc.

OK… I like telling you what to do! =D

Had another kick ass workout tonight! Hit ANOTHER PR… RAWR!!!

Flat Barbell Bench Press (using 130 as my max)
3 @ 105 (80%)
3 @ 110 (85%)
Drumroll please… using 115 (90%)… I got 9! Hell yeah! That’s like a 3 rep PR! =D

Floor Press w/ Chains from a bridge position
12 @ 85+ 2 medium chains (about 105-110 total lbs) (+2 reps from last week)
11 @ 85+ 2 medium chains (+1 rep from last week)

Face Pull
18 @ 42.5 lbs (+3 reps)
18 @ 42.5 lbs (+3 reps)
** all nice and controlled***

WHOO HOO!

BTW, my legs are KILLING me from Monday… STILL! =)

Awesome workout Molly, you’re kicking some serious butt!

Thanks Belini! I have been on a high for a whole day about it! =D

That is just totally bad-ass. You are getting stronger by the MINUTE.

As attractive as changing up squat and dead exercises is, I think there is alot to be said for sticking with one thing long enough to master it before moving on.

For us squatting noobs, yeah. Although to be honest, I am liking the overhead squats cos I can get lower on them.

Thanks Kimba! I agree! I don’t think that adding in a lot of variety is very important for a beginner. My cousin is a National Level Volleyball player and she just started training with my coach and she is a MESS! He said he won’t even put a bar on her back for squats until she can do Bulgarian Split Squats with 40 lb DBs in each hand.

She has Glute Amnesia, extremely tight hip flexors, no balance, no upper back strength or thoracic spine mobility OR shoulder mobility and a bad lower back <— due to everything else. And this is SO common with beginners. I mean hell, she has been “training” for 10+ years and this is the condition she is in… and she is way better than average… You MUST correct the big stuff, start with the basics and build a foundation.

One good thing my ex taught me is that you have to “get in shape BEFORE you can work out.” While I don’t like the term “get in shape” what he meant was you MUST be able to perform basic movements before you can get to the fancy “training” stuff… OK… Mini-rant over! =D

Cal - I am loving OH squats right now too! I haven’t gone heavier than 55 lbs… but I love the way they open up my shoulders and force my body into proper position when squatting. =D

Ooh! Ooh! I forgot to tell y’all! I am going to Indy to train with Mike Robertson next month! WHOO HOO! I am so pumped! There are three of us going and it should be a blast! I am a HUGE fan of his work but it is SO HARD to objectively assess yourself… so I will be interested to see what he has to say! It will also be a HUGE learning experience for me because in my circle I probably know as much or more about pre-hab as anyone else… and I am just barely scratching the surface.

I can’t wait to watch him assess my friends and take notes and expand my own knowledge base on it! (one has an ankle injury and the other just had knee surgery… and I am relatively healthy so we are a diverse group =D)

Indy… here we come!

Lucky.

I prefer body weight stuff before you get to do the ‘sexy,’ stuff

Ooh that sounds awesome, Molly. I’m really envious that some of you girls get to train with people who know what the fuck they’re doing. I pretty much have to rely on myself, which I’ve done 20+ years, but still.

Why would we tell you the dates if we don’t want you to come? >=D

Haha kidding! Well we have to go on a Saturday as that’s is the only day that fits everyone’s schedules… but they are only open for a few hours every Saturday and he is devoting an hour to each person… plus he has to train that day too… so let me email him and see if he can “fit you in.” =D Do you think he can handle the 4 of us?

Cal - yeah I have been INCREDIBLY lucky to meet the people I have so far! You have been doing a pretty damn good job the last 20 years ;D

So I had another FABULOUS workout tonight! I don’t think I can quite explain how fun and exciting it is to be in the gym and feel like I am actually PRO-gressing and not RE-gressing… after such a long period of feeling like I would NEVER have good workouts again I am having a blast again! And today was my freakin’ Military Press day and I don’t even like Military Press! =P

Barbell Military Press (90 lbs - 10% = approx. 80 lbs as my max)
3 @ 65 (80%)
3 @ 70 (85%)
13 @ 70 (90%) YAY! +2 reps from last week!!! =D

Standing DB Shoulder Press
10 reps @ 30 lbs each
8 reps @ 30 lbs each
7 reps @ 30 lbs each
** lost a rep or two on this exercise because my shoulders were so fatigued from the previous exercise. Plus I was in a bit of a hurry and prob not resting long enough.

T-Bar Row
12 reps/12 reps/12 reps @ 30 lbs (+2 reps from last week =D)

Reverse Hypers (body weight only)
1 set ----> failure
last week I got 52… this week I got… wait for it… wait for it… 101! Seriously! 1-0-1 WITHOUT ANY REST! I did almost 3 straight minutes of Reverse Hypers. Next time I will take a video! I had the craziest lower back pump EVER afterward!

Finished off with the Power Rope
15 seconds on
15 seconds off
4x

I was BEAT!
