Shauna - That’s very smart of you to listen to your body! I think you will do well dieting down on something similar to the AD… As for my job, I am actually part-owner of Red Point Fitness.
We are an online subscription based service that helps build custom nutrition and training programs for people. We also have a forum section where members can ask Admins (like me =D) any question they might have about our program or anything else nutrition/training/health related, etc. I LOVE it! Because it’s my biggest passion, work hardly feels like work. It’s fun! Hell, reading T-Nation articles counts as research! ;D
I also currently do strength and conditioning work with a large team of Cheerleaders and Dancers at a local High School (30-50 girls at each session). I have one girl that helps me, but it can get tough with such a big group! If I had my way, we would each have 8-10 girls for 20-30 minutes each…but it doesn’t work that way! Oh well! It’s a great gig and I love the girls! My favorite part about what I do is the fact that I get to help so many people at one time (on Red Point AND with the Cheerleaders and Dancers…) There are so many different ways to approach training/coaching people in this industry… you just have to find one that fits your lifestyle.

Thanks skye! Yeah, when I feel weak when thinking about my lifts… it’s not b/c I think that that particular weight is weak… it just FEELS weak compared to what I know I am capable of! So I hope I never come across like I am saying 80 lb rows are for p*ssies or anything… It’s just frustrating when I have done so much more… you know? =D Haha… I don’t know about being a celeb or anything… but I will take any compliments like that (having that stuff posted on Elite) that I can get! How flattering! =D
So… I was supposed to lift Monday, Wednesday and Saturday of this week… but it didn’t work out that way! Grrr! Was SO SORE up until Thursday and thought about lifting then… but kept running out of time! We are redecorating our house (Like, BIG TIME! All new hardwood, paint, couches, paintings, lighting, rugs, bookshelves, dining room table and chairs, etc. And technically we are just decorating… not RE-decorating… we have lived here almost 3 years and never decorated to begin with!)
Anyway… so my house was in shambles when I got home from NZ… and I had so much shit to catch up on when I got back (work, laundry, unpacking, cleaning, help with decorating, getting pictures developed, paying bills, etc)… and THEN, we had 20-something guests over for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday… plus I worked my ass off on Thursday and Friday all night… so blah blah blah blah! There is my laundry list of excuses about why I made it to the gym only twice this week!
But… Had a BLAST with my friends last night and I wish CBear could’ve made a cameo! Then today was my nephew’s 2nd birthday party! He is so cute! Will post pictures of him later! Anyway… should be able to train 3-4 days this week! WHOO HOO! =D

Haha… that would make this a de-load MONTH if you include the time in NZ! Oh well! Doesn’t Dan John recommend 4 straight weeks off at least once per year? Uh… yeah… that’s what I was doing. Mmm hmmm! It was all planned! =D

Well… had kind of a crappy start to my workout and a fun end… so it was cool that it ended on a good note! =D
It was a lower body day… and I was planning on pulling 245 for 8 singles… just to get back into the groove of things. So I warmed up (135, 155, 185, 205, 225)… Then put 245 on the bar. Felt SLOW! I was having a hard time loading my glutes and hamstrings and pulling BACK… instead I keep trying to pull UP! Anyway… I know I just have to spend more time practicing… but here was my workout:
Conventional BB Deadlift
6 singles @ 245 lbs
then dropped to 225 to work more on form
3 singles at 225 lbs
Sumo BB Deadlift
3 sets of 5 @ 185
Nice, Easy, FAST! These felt GOOD! =D (this was just for fun!)
Barbell Hip Thrusts <---- first time EVER trying these!!! =D
12 reps @ 115 lbs
(then, Jim suggested that I roll the barbell up and do Floor Press in a bridge position with 115… didn’t think I could do it… I did 10 reps! WHOO HOO! =D Well, actually it got stuck and wouldnt go over my boobs so he had to just hand it to me) Looks similar to this (but I was on the floor instead of a bench… and had no interest in working my “lower chest” =D
Then I finished off with 2 more sets of barbell hip thrusts:
8 reps @ 165
then did an extended set with 215 lbs that looked like this:
8 reps, 10 reps, 8 reps, 6 reps (rested 15 seconds between sets during the extended set) OUCH!
Finished the workout with the 50 rep back extension challenge… they were tough after everything else I did. But I made it! I might’ve paused a 1/2 second at the bottom once or twice… but never rested between reps. Lower back, glutes and hammies were on FIRE at the end! I will definitely be doing these again for a while until they get easier!
So… all in all… good workout! I love the Hip Thrusts w/ a barbell! Will probably put my shoulders on an aerobics step next time to get more range of motion…
Molly, that is a SICK workout. I can either choose to feel like a huge pussy contemplating this, or get inspired to kick my own ass harder next time. My choice is the latter.
That supine bridge press thing is just stunning.

I wish I could say I am just working on form @ 225…funny thing is at the beginning of the summer I loaded the bar up to 225, just to see what it felt like…I walked it out ok, but then went straight down as I attempted to squat…i laid on the floor laughing at myself, and thankful I wasn’t hurt! ![]()
Kimba - glad you chose the latter! =D Yeah, you will have to try the bridge floor press sometime! It’s awesome! I was actually thinking about what a killer workout that would be if you were short on time… Do Bridge Floor Press to failure, then roll the barbell down and do the hip thrusts to failure… then rest only long enough to strip off 10-20 ls, then repeat until you can’t move your arms or glutes anymore! =D FUN STUFF! (you would have to round it out with some upper back work though, of course! =D)

Betty - well you are sweet! Trust me, if it were squats, 225 would NOT just be working on form! It would be closer to max effort for me! Deadlifting has always just come a bit easier to me… I can’t wait to get it back though! I feel like I have slowly getting weaker since my meet and I need to reverse that trend!
