Just looking over the results and see come pretty impressive totals. I was actually wondering if there is anyone here involved that might have been there and could comment on how closely it was called. I know it used to be pretty tight for the smaller schools, but I cant comment for the upper classifications.
The last two are twin brothers. All of them seniors. I guess I was just kind of surprised that these were the numbers being put up by high school kids, in what, in my past experience has been a pretty strict meet.
Yeah, I was there; I help coach our local high school. We are 4A, so we were competing against Pontotoc which is where Colton Bramlett and Bailey Wray are from. The judging was pretty strict; I watched Colton’s squats pretty close, and they were definitely legit. When Bailey lifted the crowd got pretty tight, so it was hard to see actual depth.
But, they were strict all day, and I don’t doubt his were good. He handled the weight well and came up convincingly. I don’t know if Pontotoc has a REALLY good program or if they just happen to have a few studs, but they are tough! I don’t know if it is coincidence or not, but Wilder Fitness is located in Pontotoc (they manufacture equipment). So, I think they have a definite “culture” of lifting.
As a relatively old lifter, I really enjoy coaching these high school kids. They still think they are bullet-proof, and they’re willing to try whatever you tell them.

I figured they were strict. They used to be at least and I didn’t figure it had changed. I was surprised at how well the Wingfield program did in only their second year. Granted having the Burse twins helped but still they made a very solid showing all around. One of the schools in the district I work for brought home the 1A title.
