Hey all!
Tl;dr : Is it possible to squat 380-400 in strangulators or is that not enough weight?
Considering I have some money to spend from the holidays, I decided to treat myself to a pair of knee wraps. I’ve been looking into the strangulators by APT and have read enough good things to want to purchase them, however, I was concerned on whether or not I would be able to use them for the weight I would be squatting.
I’m fairly new to knee wraps so I don’t have much experience to go by, but I hear that with some wraps like the APT 3xH (on one extreme) that one probably wouldn’t be able to squat 400 in them due to the immense stiffness of the wrap and thus not being able to reach parallel. So having little help searching the web, I was wondering if y’all who have had experience with the strangulators would be able to tell me if I could be able to squat around 380-400-ish in them?
Strangulators are my favorite wrap and I think I’ve used them on as light as 450 pounds and I got to depth easily. Just sitting in a chair I’m able to bend my knee with them on (and I wrap them very tight) so I think you could use them on 400 pounds.

As light as 450. I wish I could say 450 was light. Hell, I will I could say 400 was light. My best is 396 at 190 (well, 180 kg at 86 kg) in belt and Eleiko knee sleeves.
Now, piggybacking onto this thread, I recently got some 2.5 m Inzer Iron Z knee wraps. My plan is to use them about every three weeks for my 90% and up sets (they’ll be singles and doubles) only to get the feel for competition. Does that sound like a decent idea of should I limit the use further?
My long term plan is to just get familiar with the wraps’ feel and get an idea of how much extra they’ll let me get on the bar so I can gauge my attempts at meets better.
There’s really no “minimum weight” required to be able to get to depth with a certain wrap. How tight you wrap and how fast you descend are really more of a factor than weight. That said, APT Strangulators are great wraps. Anderson Powerlifting’s KLA-2000 would also be a great choice.
