Knee Wraps

I’ve got my first meet coming up in October. I will have been lifting about 14 months at that point, or at least 14 months since a 13 year layoff.

It will be a SPF meet and I’ll be competing raw with wraps. The SPF allows 3 meter knee wraps so that is what I’ve been buying. My goal for the meet is 650. I did an easy walked out 615 in training a few weeks back with Titan Signature Gold wraps.

I’ve accumulated a collection of wraps because I wanted to try a bunch out, money wasn’t an object, and Lifting Large had a 20% off sale on Titan wraps last month.

I’ve got the following wraps

3 meter
Titan Signature Gold
Titan THP
Titan Max RPM
Titan Titanium
APT Strangulators

2.5 meter
Slingshot Lilliebridge
Slingshot blacks

I’ve got very large calfs, knees, and thighs so that limits the revolutions I can get. My calf is 21" and thigh is 34".

I know there are various schools if thoughts on what constitutes a good knee wrap and was looking for advice on which of these might be the best from experienced powerlifters.

I can get about 9 revolutions with the black Slingshots and the Titan Titanium, 8 with the Max RPMs, and 7 with all the rest. I am pulling hard when I do that as well.

I like the feel of the black Slingshots the best and actually feel like I get more rebound with them. They actually feel tighter than even the Strangulators.

Maybe I’m missing something here but it’s almost like the cheap “low end” wraps are the best.

It likely depends on your preference. Some people like a more cast-like feel even at the expense of rebound. One of my training partners loves the old TP5000 from Inzer, as it is cast-like. It stops you in the hole, but it provides little rebound. Others want to feel the rebound more, in which case a stretchier (and usually cheaper) material works well. I like the best of both worlds. I used to accomplish this by rubbing chalk on the Inzer Z wraps or using stick-um on my knees before wrapping with them.

My current favorite is the Inzer Gripper, which has a rubber backing. It provides relatively good stopping power and a ton of rebound. I apologize; I have zero experience with Titan, but maybe these explanations could help you figure out what you’re looking for with the Titans.

I tend to squat very deep and always have, I feel strongest squatting this way. Not sure if I’m losing pounds by doing this, but squatting how I do now I don’t see the need for a wrap with stopping power. Again, maybe a wrap with more stopping power would allow me to squat a little higher (but still legal) and lift a little more.

I measured my right below my knee where I start my wrap (19"), at the patella (19"), and the lower thigh where I end my wrap (24"). Thought this info would be helpful for comparing revolutions per meter of wrap with other lifters. I’ve seen video of Malanichev wrapping Sam Byrd’s knees and getting 11 revolutions out of a 2 meter wrap, and I don’t thing Malanichev himself could get 11 revolutions on my big legs.

Watch the video again he got 13 revolutions out of a two meter wrap and Sams legs are fucking stupid thick he is a very lean 240 at 5’6. Andret gets 11-12 revolutions on his own legs and I’m not saying they aren’t bit I doubt your legs are much bigger than his so I would say he can lol.

To the OP depending on how you squat will have a ton to do with what and how you wanna wrap. If your a close Squatter with a good drop your probably gonna want a wrap like the Slings which have a nice rebound but are pretty nice when it comes to comes to stopping in the hole.

If your a wide stance squatter your gonna want something that is thick like the APT 3Xs or the like and 3m if allowed which is gonna allow you bundle a ton of material behind the knee to actually get some rebound.

I watched the video again and I only saw 12 revolutions. I also watched the video of Malanichev being wrapped in Lilliebridge wraps and they only got 7 revolutions out of a 2.5 meter wrap. Now he may not have wanted it tight since it looked like a warmup.

I squat close stance, high bar, and deep. I like the feeling of a lot of rebound out of the hole.

I train 5/3/1 and on Monday I do squats and it’s 5/3/1 week. I’ll probably try a few of the wraps on my Joker sets and compare them.

Then if you like alot of rebound you will be hard pressed to find a wrap better than the Lillibridge Wraps. Quite a few that are close if not the same but for the price and what your looking for I doubt you will find better.
