I’m having surgery in a couple of days and I’ll be out of training for 2-3 weeks. Does anyone know any steps (supplements etc) I can take to minimize any atrophying?
Take about 10-20 grams of glutamine and 1-2 grams of NAC a day in divided doses. This is what european hospital do with the elderly to reduce atrophie in old age. Best of luck to you my friend. P.S. Keep the protien intake up, just as if you were training.
This might be a dumb question, but what’s NAC? Would something like methoxy7, riboseC or Tribex be a good idea to take post surgery so I dont feel like my muscles are falling apart?
I found that a very efficient way to preserve musculature is by using an anti-catabolic like cytodyne and using a high dosage(a bit costly I might add). If you are only going to be out for 2-3 weeks this will be sufficient if you are keeping your protien intake, as well as caloric mantainance levels constant. it may also be an excellent time to go through a bottle of tribex-500 if you are concerned about a drop in t-levels. Don’t rush back into training because your body’s recuperative focus need to be on your surgical region. Best of luck to you, and god-speed on your recovery!
Thanks for the advice!
Just a couple more questions though:
What is NAC? Can I get this at any store?
Is cytodyne basically a formula of BCAA’s and glutamine? If it is how much of each do you think I should take (I’ve already got these supplements and I’d like to save some money).
NAC = N-Acetyl-Cysteine. This form is supposed to be better absorbed than regular Cysteine. It is a potent antioxidant and is supposed to boost the immune system.
