Milk

Um, maybe you should start instead of posting dumb questions on the board?

Stubob- Some protein tastes great in water. Depends on what you’re using. Try some Grow! if you haven’t yet.

Sometimes I will throw a little bit of plain fat free yogert in with the water. Gives the shake a little more substance, but it has a distinct flavor. Yogert has the added benifit of live cultures.

In my personal experience (which admittedly isn’t much compared to some of the other posters in this forum ), I’ve had no problem going from 8% - 15% body fat and back multiple times over the last 3 years while eating plenty of fruit (mostly bananas) and skim milk. Skim milk still has most of the vitamins Tiree. They just throw out the fat. I’ve never gotten rid of the milk while cutting but am considering it now in an attempt to get below 8%. We’ll see how it goes.

I'm with Nate Dogg and some of you other guys. I'm not getting above 10% again. I never did when I was younger and why I decided to go that way at 30 years of age, I have no idea. Too much reading internet stuff perhaps. I've found no difference between the slow gains without the fat that I experienced at 20 and the bulking and cutting that I started at 30 when I hit the weights again. Same final results minus the gut.

Luckily, I kept logs back then too. Very interesting to read. I have noticed something about my body that maybe some of you guys have seen as well. While body fat seemed to be more evenly distributed over my body when I was younger, it definitely just piles up on my waist now. Age?? Or just the result of ending up 30 lbs overweight?

By the way, I'm not massive by any means (5'7" @ 165lbs and 9% currently). I lose weight easy and don't pack on muscle very quickly. That probably compounds my problem with packing on too much fat. I had the same results with Massive Eating as some of you other guys. The calorie calculations were way too high in my case despite my pretty decent metabolism.

Thanks for the forum!!

The guy’s 15 and pretty damn ripped. I think he’s way ahead of the game for just having found this website in the first place - I wouldn’t be worrying about little things like drinking milk. If drinking milk is the only thing he’s doing “wrong” as far as diet goes, he’s years ahead of where I was when I was 15.

Hell, I still drink milk - what else are you gonna wash down a chocolate chip cookie with? But then again, I’m a powerlifter and I could give a rat’s ass what I look like so long as my numbers are going up. And the guy that said protein drinks taste bad in water was dead on - can’t imagine having a protein shake w/o milk.

WHOA, protein tastes like crap in water, man try GROW bro, that stuff would be too rich for me to drink in milk. Really I think one needs to discipline themselves to cutting out all of the extra like milk, sugar, etc… to truly experience the true taste of real food. This is what is so great about eating the way most of us do, we truly see what the food tastes like, and are not dependant on refined sugars, and sweeteners ( except for splenda) to make things taste good. Personally I dont drink milk at all, as I really dont see any benefits to it, I believe there are much better protein sources out there to make my daily caloric intake of. Now cottage cheese on the other hand that stuff is awesome, although I am wondering a bit about the carb content of it, and wether or not they raise insulin to a high degree, and answers to that?

Tiree- Milk is not the only type of food that can help provide vitamin D and is “good for the bones.” There are plenty of other foods that provide more functional fats/carbs/protein that can also help with your micronutrient needs. If it’s simply a taste issue then it’s your choice, but if there ever comes a time where your goals aren’t being reached you should probably think about cutting back on your milk intake.

Why skim instead of whole? Look at the fat profile of whole milk and tell me what you think about it. Your fat calorie intake is better spent on other types of fat, flax, fish, etc.

I think everyone here has outlined pretty clearly why milk is not ideal but since you are unwilling to give it up because you like the taste then that’s your prerogative.

What is the take on A2 milk?

Stubob,

Instead of using milk in your shakes, try using water and cottage cheese in a blender. I think it works pretty well.

I’m interested in the A1 vs A2 milk also, anyone have any conclusions?

Hyphnz, is the white stuff really the right stuff?

Slimy-x, re your
Hyphnz, is the white stuff really the right stuff?
I actually consume very small amounts of milk with dairy ex yogurt, cott chse, and cheese, but am interested in the A2 saga and am no science boffin.

Go the Crusaders!!!
