Skim Milk or Whole Milk?

What are peoples thoughts on which is better, skim milk or whole milk. While skim milk may have less fat, does the whole milk have better calcium and minerals etc?

Whole milk has more calories = win.

^Seriously though, before anyone says “skimmed is better for dieting” let me add that if you are dropping calories, you probably shouldn’t be having milk at all.

I think vitamins and junk is basically the same, it’s more an issue of how much fat you want to take in.

whole milk is a cheap source of calories and is good for bulking. skim milk is dumb, since many of the vitamins found in milk are fat soluble so without fat they are pretty much useless.

Why does 2% and 1% get left out. :frowning:

I drink 2% milk (I go through a gallon every 2-3 days), but the OP was asking about skim vs. whole.

Some vitamins don’t absorb without fat.

And some people drink skim milk with other food.

Cows do pretty well on whole milk. If you are drinking milk, why would you want to avoid extra calories? Before anyone starts pissing and moaning about cholesterol - there is some pretty decent info out there detailing NO relation between cholesterol and mortality…

Cows and horses get pretty muscular just eating grass all day too…
Just saying you can’t relate how another animal reacts to what it eats and use it to show it’s good for the same purpose in us.

But yea, just drink whatever kind of milk gets you whatever kind of calories you need.
There’s so many different kinds of milk, it’s easy to buy whatever you need based on the rest of your diet and your goals.

I remember reading a study a while ago about a link between drinking skim-milk and increased prostate cancer in men.

Regardless though, skim milk tastes like shit. I personally drink 2%, so i would say whole is better.

I love milk in general and drink a gallon a day. I used to drink 2% but it was not helping my cholersterol levels at all. I switched to skim several years ago and just had to start eating a little more to make up for the lost calories.

I usually drink skim because it does not have the stronger taste of whole milk. I dont mind the 1-2% stuff though if skim is not available at the time.

More of a taste preference than a calorie or fat issue for me anyway.

The estrogens found in whole milk are good for bulking as well.

I think it depends completely on what you’re doing… If you’re cutting and are allowed ‘some’ dairy, the dairy that your allowed is usually low-fat cheeses, skim milk, etc. and in lower quantities.

For bulking, it’s whole milk all the way…

Raw unpasturized milk. It’ll put muscle on your frame and hair on your balls.

Difference is, people are not in the habit of eating grass in any form, whereas we are ALREADY drinking milk and have done so for a long term, this is just a discussion about skimmed vs whole. Cows’ milk, whilst it is not quite the same, is probably the most acceptable substitute for human milk, and we KNOW humans react well to that.

I’m not denying that estrogen is present in milk, and i dont think any person on this board who has done research on the topic will. I will argue that just about any food you buy that is not fully organic (ie grown without the use of pesticides) will contain estrogenic hormones. If you feel the need to not drink milk in attempt to remove estrogen from your diet, more power to you and I respect your decision to do so.

I have grown up eating dairy products and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Back to my point of whole milk being great for bulking, I can gallons of milk for $1.99 (sometimes less if i can find some close to the expiration date). A gallon of whole milk contains somewhere in the ballpark of 1800 calories iirc (as stated earlier i drink 2%). Almost 2000 calories for under $2 is undeniably cost effective for bulking.

2 Dollars for a Gallon are you cereal!? Here in Onatario, Canada its over 4.60 for 2 litres. I get 4 Litre Jugs for 6.50ish.
