10 gold metals and one more World record…

On a side note the Chinese women have just opened the door for the US women, lets see if they can take advantage.
Well, turns out the U.S women couldn’t capitalize on it afterall. Sad, but still satisfying at silver.
The interviews that made me laugh were with Bob Costas and Bela Karolyi, where Bela continually alluded to the fact that the Chinese team were underage. He all out stated it twice…Bela isn’t convinced that all those girls are sixteen, and neither am I. One would think it more impressive of a defeat under the circumstances, but Bela is of the opinion it makes them more fearless competitors who aren’t as liable to buckle under Olympic pressure. Either way, a W is a W… and a gold is a gold.

Ya I thought thats was funny as hell. And there is NO WAY the girl on the right is 16

It is absolutely unreal how far out in front (literally and figuratively) he is from his competition. Those other guys in the water are the BEST swimmers in the world, and they’re getting brutalized.
I was actually disappointed when I heard Ian Thorpe retired from competitive swimming. He was the only guy who could truly compete with Phelps.
I extremely highly doubt that Phelps is using illegal substances. He was in his first Olympics at 15 years old, and swimming isn’t gymnastics, where you can typically compete at that young an age. He’s just the biggest genetic freak amongst a competition of genetic freaks.
I can’t help but think, however, that the last Olympian that I saw absolutely dominate the rest of the field like Phelps is, was Ben Johnson…[/quote]
Unless I’m mistaken, Thorpe “retired” amongst doping allegations. Besides, at this point he has smashed most of Thorps records.
I think the most amazing thing about it is how frequently he is swimming. He swam in the 800 relay less than an hour after the butterfly. There are a lot of swimmers that refuse to swim more than one race because they are afraid it will take something out of their performance. It’s scary to think he’d be swimming faster if he got more rest.

I bet the guys from the steroid thread would love to see his various high tech stacks.
It’s a shame we’ll probably never know the details.
What stacks? Are you saying that because he has a chance at 8 gold medals, he has to be on the juice?
DO you have anything other than your own pathetic opinion with which to back this up?
If you really think he’s on something, get good at swimming, join the Wolverines, then you’ll find out how much dedication and hard work they put in and how little of it depends on some “secret stack”

Ahm.
dedication? check!
hard work? check!
secret stack? …check…
even as little as 1% can be huge in pro sports. Top champs of today use drugs you won’t find in their system. Some drugs like EPO and similar substances give such an enormous boost that endurance based sports are pretty much dependant on it nowadays.
I will also add that I think he is more likely to be on some state-of-the-art stack than not. Not that it takes anything away from his achievements in my eyes.
I hate the attitude “if someones great they must be enhanced,” or “if he’s better than me he must be juicing.” Fuck that, he’s clean until proven otherwise.

The same shit happened with Lance Armstrong. Instead of portraying him as a role model and someone that everyone should look up to, people had to throw the steroid accusations around.
People need to respect others’ accomplishments and find a way to be motivated by them instead of being bitter.

I agree, saying that someone is probably juicing because they are good is pretty stupid. Like if I assumed someone??s IQ was low for making a conclusion based on no evidence.

Did anyone catch how much he EATS??
Like 12000 kCals/day…

Haha, the number is getting bigger everyday. Soon they’ll say he’s walking around with a dialysis machine that’s constantly cramming nutrients in his blood to the tune of 50,000cal per day.

Must has got nothing to do with a purely speculative exercise.

I remember watching an interview with an American cyclist (who has admitted to using drugs throughout his career) where the interviewer asked him how prevalent drug use is in the Tour de France. His response was that in the entire field of around 200, it’s possible that there is an athlete who doesn’t take drugs.
I m not sure why some of you find it so hard to believe that he is clean.
Yes of course he could be on something illegal but his dominance should not be as surprising as you all find it.
Basically you have swimming which like bicycling is not something that the average kid gets into as a sport. Football, Baseball, Soccer and Track and field are all widely played sports so the pool is bigger and thus a dominance of this nature is all but impossible.
In a sport like swimming you could have very good but not great atheletes who learn the form train their ass off and become among the best. The reason why phelps is so dominate is that he would be the best even if everyone competed in this sport and since not everyone does that makes him look even more dominant.
Basically if this were like track and field he would be Michael Johnson or Carl Lewis, dominant in their time but none of this stuff about greatest athelete ever. I would take Jesse Owens, Bruce Jenner or Jim Thorpe simply because they were dominant over a serious of very different atheletic endevors.
None of this is meant to knock Phelps. He would be the best regardless but if he was in a more competitive sport I dont think he would be dominating by nearly as much.
