meltdown training

I have been reading and searching on post for meltdown training, and is meltdown suppose to be used by itself or with another training program?

Try it and then tell us if you can do another full program along with it.

Don Alessi’s program was meant to be used by itself… 4-6 weeks I would guess.

ok thanks, i’ve seen in other post where some where adding it with other programs, i thought for sure it was the wrong thing to do.

You’re welcome… I used that program with one of my powerlifters to get him to make weight. His core strength and GPP increased to the point that he beat all his PRs and won a meet in Puerto Rico!

Hey Derek can you go into detail of how you mixed the two types of training?

Yeah. We (he) used the Westside PL style. I was banned from sled dragging with my clients at the gym I work out of so, as the meet got closer, we tapered down the ancilliary stuff (front raise, side raise, DB tri ext etc.) but kept the 1RM and 3RM stuff… special lifts like board presses, low box squats, rack lockouts. He was strong but needed to up his GPP. As you know the sled was out (a-holes) so we used Meltdown to lower his BF and increase his GPP. His overall workload didn’t change much but he made weight and won the show (Puerto Rico). Now, after a lay-off (police academy) he’s back and I am using a modified version with an eye toward vertial press, abdominals and clean/snatch stuff.

Hey Derek thats good stuff man, you don’t mind if I PM? I have a few other questions for you. thank you

PM me anytime, all the time! I love it!

You probably read my post. I am currently combining Meltdown (only 1 day per week) with 2 full body strength days and one sprinting day. Too early to tell if it’s a great idea yet, but I like it so far.

Derek, was your client still doing heavy workouts while he was on Meltdown?

Hey Patman can you tell me what your post was or could you go into what your workouts look like?

I’ve found that combining the three most common attributes of weight training is ultimately the best way to go. By combining, I mean simultaneously. The traditional linear periodization has kinda fallen out of favor among those in the know. I will at times perform say max singles of a deadlift variation, then explosive pushing such as speed bench with or without bands, then move on to something more endurance oriented such as high rep (20-25) cable rows. Next workout, I would rotate principals/exercises… Max bench, high rep deadlifts, and speed chins for example. And yes, he was still maxing while "melting’.
