Thank you man! I will definitely do a full write-up of the event when I get back Sunday night. I have seen a few meets on youtube and the local ones seem pretty “first come first serve’esque” but we shall see!
Good luck man, looking forward to hearing how you made out!
Well my strength took a larger hit than expected from the cut. Ended up cutting 20lbs in the last 6 days 10 of it being the night before. Each lift was down about 30-40lbs strength wise but I definitely enjoyed the experience and am happy with my performance given the circumstances. It is funny tough the only lift I was worried about was my squat and it ended up being my best lol. I took third place out of 6 juniors I believe and 7th of 14 or 15 in the open.
Good job man. Gotta remember that after 3 heavy squats your strength will absolutely suffer on the bench and deadlift (especially if you normally train each lift individually). I had a similar performance this weekend - hit all 3 squats, missed my 2nd and 3rd bench (a weight I have hit in the gym many times), then 2 for 3 on deads, just missing my third at the top while tearing a callous lol. Hope you had fun man. Time to get ready for the next one.
Congratulations on getting your first meet under your belt!
Your squats looked deep – deeper than your training vids. Great job there.
You know what you gotta work on in bench: figuring out a setup where you can drive without lifting your ass.
Your DL surprised me a little. But like Max said, fatigue can really set in by the time DLing rolls around. Especially if you did a serious weight cut. I couldn’t believe the refs were going to let the rolled up sleeves pass. And then the announcer chimed in. LOL!
Here’s to continued success!
Yeah was an awesome learning experience. I also couldn’t believe I couldn’t budge 490 after how easy 440 flew up. I didn’t actually know the rules about the sleeves and looking back at the tape the head judge looks over and rolls his eyes at her when she says it so it was kinda funny. All very knowledgeable people though it was a very well ran meet. Can’t wait for the next one! (probably going to do another training cycle at 210 pounds and do a meet in Louisiana on Sept. 4th to see if I can qualify for nationals). We shall see.
oh and spoiler alert ole Candito pulled 282.5 and then a 4x bodyweight at 295kg in the 74kg class the day before (I went down a day early to get a feel of how the meet flowed).
so that was a 3/3 on squats, 1/3 on the bench and 1/3 on the DL, right?
what was your total
sorry, i skimmed the video ![]()
Haha no worries bro. 550kg, extremely small total nothing fancy. Left about 15kg’s on deadlift trying to hit a qualifying total on my 2nd attempt but squat and bench was all I had for the day strength wise.
