Meet Day Foods

I’ve got my second meet coming up on the 17th and was wondering what people do for before and during the meet? Most people out there do shakes?

Last meet I ate eggs and oatmeal for breakfast. I had 2 shakes with whey, dextrose and bcaa’s. One before squats and the other before bench. I also had chicken and rice if memory serves which I ate between bench and deads.

Anyone do anything different?

My meet day nutrition:
-Box of oreos
-Gallon of milk
-Loaf of bread made into PB&J’s
-Surge Workout Fuel combined with Jack’d

That’s usually after a normal breakfast with eggs and bacon and stuff.

Chicken and rice? Seriously?

How long are you expecting this meet to last? I like to keep a majority of my meet day stuff in liquid form, but that is just me. It is quick to take in, usually quick to digest, and does not slow me down. The chicken and rice would seem pretty difficult to me. Fruit is also a good choice.

McDonalds that morning (McGriddles, Sausage Biscuits, and Powerade)

During the meet:
wings (provided by a sponsor)
gatorade mixed with protein
water
5 hour energy

My meet food:

McDonalds breakfast-usually 1 McGriddle, 1 hash brown, 1 sausage mcmuffin, and 1 orange juice

1 peanut butter sandwich
1 banana
1 package of gummy worms
1 gatorade
1 bottle of water
1 carton chocolate milk

Sometimes I’ll have a 5-hour energy type thing or a caffeine pill, and maybe a protein bar of some sort. I also refill my bottles a couple times from the water fountain.

I was looking at Big K’s Powerlifting meet in Cleveland at the end of the month, and the entry form says “No Outside food or drink. There will be a concession stand.” Anyone ever dealt with something like that?

haha, yep chicken and rice…seemed like a good idea at the time. I had some left over from the week before the meet and I wanted something more substantial than shakes. I realized my mistake when I saw everyone chowing down on rice crispy treats and sugar cookies at the meet. Time time round fast digesting carbs it is. Live and learn.

Thanks for the replies.

Chicken soup - highest sodium I can find
Chocolate Milk
Bananas
That’s pretty much it unless it goes long and then I add clif bars because they’re small and calorie dense.

Definitely chocolate milk and bananas (good call Ouroboro). Also gatorade and some type of power bar type thing. Also might add in muffins.

That sounds fucked up. They’re probably trying to make a buck from food. I would bring my own if I were you and sneak stuff in your bag.

I’d watch going crazy with the sweets and processed food during a meet, especially if you aren’t used to it. I am always amazed at seeing lifters eat doughnuts before squats, if I ate that shit I would A) have no energy and B) puke all over the place.

everything and all things

It takes quite a man to put the sweets away like I can! Plus it helps my squat muscle…

We should have waited and gone after the meet. I had olive garden after the meet, it wasnt bad, but it wasnt bbq.

Post-meet bbq sounds awesome

The post-meet meal is the best. I eat until I can’t walk.

My last two meets I have done this and it has worked out VERY well, I think:

4 days out: Go nuts. Eat anything and everything
3 days out: Same.
2 days out: No carbs. Tons of protein veggies. No Caffiene. Shit load of water
Meet Day:
Just protein and fat for breakfast. And not a whole lot.
Weigh-in
Start smashing enrgy drinks and Assault.
Warm-up
Start smashing a gallon 50/50 mix of gatorade and water
Squats
More Assault
Bench
More Assault
Deadlift

Bourbon and cheeseburgers.

I think it depends on if you’re cutting or not. I usually cut 10-13lbs (from 145 to 132) so I don’t eat anything before weigh ins. Directly after weigh ins I drink about 2 liters of gatorade (about 200 grams of carbs worth) and eat a PB&J. I snack on some candy throughout the day (mainly skittles and nerds). I try to drink an Amp or Monster about 20-30 mins before each lift while I’m warming up. If I want to feel a little more bloated before deadlifts I’ll kill another PB and J about 45 mins before my opener. I’ve done this the past couple meets and I didnt see any strength loss from cutting about 10% of my bodyweight (two meets ago I actually set a bench PR that I didn’t even do in training at 145)
