@precedent: Getting big is easy, getting better is a lot harder!!! I first broke the 240 platau when I was preparing for my first show, when I ballouned up to 242 lbs, to a huge 17% bodyfat!!! By that time, I’d been lifting for a good 6 years, but then, I dieted down to a flat 176 lbs, which goes to show you that the weight I gained was mosty water and fat. I’d say that it took me at least 9 years of serious lifting and dieting to be able to look good at 240 lbs. Now, my goal is to acheive the same conditionning I normally have at 240, but at 265-270 lbs, while maintaining a tight waist and better symetry. And Im not in a hurry either, brick by brick, step by step, everyday I get closer to my ultimate goal!!![/quote]
Thank you Alex, it’s a pleasure to be able to hear it straight from you. I’ll keep putting the hours in and maybe one day i’ll be your size! 4 years so far, see how I go over the next couple!
Keep up the amazing work.
Marcus
Looking great man! The shoulders are sick!!
How did you end up doing at your recent show?
@mallen5: Thanks man, now its back to the drawing boards, trying to push the limits a bit further!!! Stay focussed and keep pushing hard!!!
@johnman18: I finished 7th out of 14th…what’s funny though, is that some of my pics ended up with the pics of the guy who finished 5th!!! Anyways, I dont really care, since I was in the best shape of my life, 20 lbs heavier than my previous contest, and the guys who finished ahead of me are aged between 35-40 yrs old…since Im only 31, I have lots of great years ahead of me!!! And as I often say, the journey is more satsfying for me than the end result itself, if I did all my homeworks, my physique has improved, I had fun doing my prep, there’s no shame getting beat by better guys! A plastic trophee and a tap on the shoulder is nice and I really want to win, dont get me wrong, but knowing you were at your very best, that’s the real end result Im shooting for!
This is a great thread and everything so far, but is there more than just the one picture of you Alex?
I googled you, did a little bit of searching around these boards, and haven’t found much. It’d be great to see a few other shots just to see the “all-around” physique.

This thread is gold.
@SteelD: Thanks man!!!
Very, very cool.
Great body and attitude overall, but your shoulders…not only impressive, but fucking (awe-)inspiring.
@FattyFat: Hahahahaha!!! Thanks man, shoulders were always a strong point for me, and since they grew easily, I always enjoyed training them hard. Now I’m more into balancing my body, not letting my shoulders become too big compared to the other bodyparts.
Hey man I need you to tell me about how to get ripped like that because I just started working out and I don’t think my ways of working out work! Help.

So, when you did your research on training and diet on your own, what training approach did you choose?
Or what did some of the big guys in the gym tell you when you asked?
@Ahmadalries: There’s no short answer to your question bud…first part of the equation is obviously diet and proper training. Depending on your physique, bodyfat level, body type and what kind of job you have, your diet and training should be adjust accordingly. In the end, its a math thing…you need to burn more calories than what you put into your body…but not all calories sources are equal, obviously!!!
What works wonders for me is alternating low, medium and high carb days, so that I keep m body guessing. Most of my carbs are split before, during and after my training, so that I still have enough energy to go thru coach Thibaudeau’s toughest workouts!!! Workout Fuel, FINiBARs and Surge Recovery are great for this, cause the carbs in those products wont make your insulin levels rise too high and then crash, keeping your blood sugar steady and providing you with energy.
