What about someone who is “clean bulking” (one of the worst phrases in the fitness industry)
Someone offers you some cake after dinner and you turn it down because it doesn’t fit in with how you are dieting?
If you are “clean bulking” then you are dieting.
Dieting just means regulating food choices and portions.
That can be applied to gaining or losing weight.
It is not exclusive to one.
Does this make sense or do you disagree?
What do you think?

Not surprising. Do you even read all the posts or do you start to read, go in to a rage, and let your fingers fly?
None were ignored. My “context” was right from the start.

You apparently think “I am dieting” means you are just eating normally…which makes no sense.
I didn’t suggest any particular definition for dieting. You failed to notice that too.

It makes about as much sense as someone who says they are dieting but they aren’t.

What? Didnt you just say this like a week ago?

Presto!..alternate logic appears.

How will X get out of this predicament!!!..stay tuned kiddos.

I agree with X though Bout the diet thing. We don’t need to be nitpicky. We are all on the same page with that. Yes, off season bodybuilders are “dieting” , but in general we all use it to mean strip fat. If you see a title of a post that says “gonna start dieting, need advice”, we all know they aren’t talking about gaining weight.

You are just making shit up now. No one uses dieting to mean gaining weight…at least not in general and not from anyone I have ever known.

In general, DIETING means losing fat as a goal…not gaining.

You could still gain fat while “clean bulking” so what are you talking about?

Until now.

The entire state of bodybuilding and all terms used can change instantly just to have an argument with me.

Man, I can just feel the camaraderie.

Definitely on a bulk with all the daily “feedings”

It’s easy to see why PX gets confused. He doesn’t even know when he’s dieting or not.

It definitely makes sense.

I was just agreeing that most people apply the word “dieting” in the context of losing fat.
Professor X wrote:

Most people do not use DIETING to mean what they eat day to day. They use DIETING to mean losing body fat.
Edit: If we were to agree on a standard definition of dieting, I’d go with what you said about regulating food choices.

Dieting as understood for losing fat is more of a “cultural” definition since most people use it in that context.

Don’t know if that makes sense…

I thought we could all agree on that…but clearly some here just want to argue anything at all.

My post was the one that sparked this “discussion.”
I said that dieting doesn’t only apply to losing fat and can be applied to gaining weight.
Some here said it DOES mean losing fat.
Then some here backtracked to say that “generally speaking it is applied to losing weight.”
Yes, obviously it is generally associated with losing fat BUT like I said the whole time isn’t a term exclusively applied to losing fat.
I said it applies to losing or gaining.

Boy…it’s a good thing posters called me stupid and other names for standing up for what I believe in and most people agree with.

Boy, you guys following me around sure are way better morally and ethically than me.

Makes sense and I agree.
Dieting means regulating food choices and portions to achieve a desired outcome.
For some that is to lose fat.
For some that is to gain muscle.
It is all still dieting.

At this point, I think I’m camaraderied out.

I generally find X annoying and argumentative, but why the fuck is everyone so willing to argue semantics in this case. Let’s just get back to the stuff that is entertaining at least.
