Ok quick story. My girlfriend is visiting me for the weekend and we went hiking/running in the woods today. When we got back she found a small black tick in the knuckle of her hand. We removed the tick and still have it. It’s most likely that it’s a deer tick so we’re worried about the chance of lyme’s disease. Luckily her father is a dentist and he called in a prescription for Doxycycline for precaution. The tick is going to be sent out for testing. Until then she will be taking this antibiotic, possibly longer if she does have LD. So the question, is the MD6 safe to take? Will MD6 lessen the effectiveness of the antibiotic? Thanks in advance all.
Ok first off let me tell you that your blowing the possibility of LD way out of proportion. I grew up in the woods of east texas and I’ve been bitten by literally hundreds of ticks and never caught LD. I’m not sure if MD6 would have any adverse effect on the antibiotic, but as far as LD goes, it’s not nearly as common as people would like you to think.
Using Md6 could increase the likelihood of dehydration which seems to occur (at least for me) when using antibiotics anyway so I’d recommend she avoid it.
No i’m not blowing this out of proportion. This was just any tick. It was a deer tick, almost all of them have LD. I looked up a website for LD and it had a map and MD residents have a much greater chance then TX. Every year this is a problem in MD. My gf is from NJ and her father had LD for quite some time and was very miserable. Better safe than sorry.
I also have to agree with Ron that this is definitely blowing this ld thing out of proportion. Fortunately you have the tick so you can get it tested…if it comes back positive then your girlfriend can take the necessary measures. Until then I’d say this is just a waste of medication and your gf’s likely going to feel like shit(from the antibiotic) for no reason at all.
Actually she feels fine taking the med and it was only $14. I hardly say that spending $14 is “blowing things out of proportion” to make sure she doesn’t get LD.
Aren’t Deer Ticks red?
D Rock… what part of Maryland are you from?
I live in the sticks. I live in Kingsville. Guessing you’ve never heard of it. If not here are a few towns near me: Bel Air, Perry Hall, Towson. I’m basically in the middle of all three.
Sure, I know where that is. I’m just north of Alexandria, Virginia, in Camp Springs (though usually I’m living in college park). I hope your gf is doing alright.
