There’s word from the North East of England I’d like you all to see: SHITE. You say it like ‘shine’ but with a ‘t’. I think you can all guess what it means, and coincidentally it is what was found in 75 percent of beef burgers tested by the FDA. E. coli 0157:H7 is another unpleasant part of many burgers, it also kills children. Oh, and it has resistance to anti-biotics. BSE could also add to that char-grilled flavour. The government says the US doesn’t have it, yet it isn’t tested for- the US says 15,000 cattle were tested. Belgium tested 400,000 yet they have 1/30th the amount of cattle. You don’t find it without looking. Well OK, lets have fries then, with all their cancer causing trans-fatty acids as well as huge fat content, talking of which, the humble chicken nugget contains more fat gram for gram than a burger. Mmmmmmm. Don’t get me started on the ethics of how certain companies treat meat producers either!
Now I don’t assume anybody reading this website will eat in fast food places, but maybe you can quote this passage to the fat co-worker in the cubicle next to you, or the unhealthy relative you are quite fond of. Tell them all this and close by saying ‘Basically all that fast food is McShite’
That strain of E coli is found in deer and dairy cows. Even people eating “healthy” have gotten it. Odwalla had a problem with their apple juice. You aren’t supposed to use what they call “falls” or apples that have fallen off the tree in juice because of potential E coli contamination from deer feces that most likely is on the ground in any apple orchard. The people that pick the apples don’t get paid well and they get paid by the amount of apples they bring in so it’s not surprising that it happened. E coli can easily be killed by heating the food to 140 degrees F. That’s why ground meat should be cooked well done. At least in the US all burger places know this and are frequently checked to see if they comply. Common sense and good food handling techniques in the kitchen are more reliable ways of staying safe than expecting the government to inspect every morsel of food that crosses your lips.
I say shite and I’m from Michigan.
E coli is almost unavoidable in the slaughter of animals. If any of the contents from the intestines come in contact with the meat, it has the potential to be contaminated. It is the SURFACE of the meat which is contaminated if it touches the carcass. Heat of 140 to 180 will kill it. If you are eating meat that is ground up, it gets mixed throughout the meat—That is why most restaurants will no longer serve “rare” burgers. They don’t want you to get sick and sue them. You would be surprised what you put down your cake hole. Are you aware that the FDA has allowable amounts of ground up insects in grains? Better yet, some “shite” makes it into your milk when the dairy farmers haven’t properly cleaned the cow’s udders before hooking it up to the milking machine. It is filtered out in strainers before the milk is processed. Yummy!
And all this time I thought it was chocolate milk…
Yeah, it is a bit of a bummer that it’s almost impossible to get a decent burger in the United States anymore, everything’s charred to the consistency of your average hockey puck. It’s also interesting to note two things: e.coli infections are rare, and the majority of e.coli infections don’t come from dirty cows, but from cooks and bus boys who scratch their 'roids (hemorrhoids, not steroids) and forget to lavese los manos.
Still, fast food is generally McShite…
The problem is not in the cooking but the slaughtering, and this is why I am sick and tired of hearing cook your burgers well done. It is a band aid, placing the blame on the people who prepare the food, not on the processing plants whose inspection processes are half-ass at best. Keep hearing the old “they use cheap un-educated labor”, well its time to start educating, and paying for good labor. Great, your shit is well done, its still shit, enjoy. We serve burgers at our restaurant, and I regulary eat them rare as do our patrons. Why, because we buy high quality ground beef, and occasionally grind our own. People need to wake up, and realize that eating crap, because its cheap and fast is not worth it. Remember that next time you waste your money at a fast food chain.

Damn, that was funny. I almost spit out this slice of pizza.
Well what about “organic” produce?
Using animal shit as fertilizer?
I’ll take my chances with the traditional chemical fertilizers…
I always thought a McShite was when you go into McDonalds to use the toilet, but not to eat anything. So you can say “I’m just going for a quick McShit”.
Um. i eat fast food all the time…i live on it…pizza, bergers, pancakes, and alot of others and it doesnt effect me at all.
Eat at sushi restaraunts. It is the healthiest fast food I know of as long as you stick to the fish and rice, not the other crap with mayo and deep fried goodies stuffed inside.
just to put a little perspective on this subject: Fast Food corparations actually play one of the biggest roles in food safety and ethics, because of their large amount of buying power. Think about it, what customer can the beef producers not afford to lose: McShite!! Therefore a great majority of the food handling protocols in these processing plants are governed by these corporations.
