My money would be on Mayweather by UD.
My heart wants Pac by KO/TKO in 7.
mayweather by late TKO
First boxing card I ever paid for. Jesus this was boring. There was no action, just one great athlete with amazing reflexes and movement against some dude who throws punches. Boxing just isn’t interesting, how can someone win a round landing 3 punches? This is why regular people find boxing boring as hell. On the positive side Floyd was sinking in that guillotine.
utter domination from floyd.
PATHETIC post fight interview from paquiao.
I dont know what I was thinking. I dont know why I was so naive.
Here I thought there were two of the generations best fighters ready to define their legacies in a historic event, giving it all going out on their shields to a well deserved retirement.
Instead we got a gun-shy pacquiao and a playing it safe mayweather.
boring, boring boring. I saw a flash of brilliance in the first 4 rounds, and then mayweather must’ve saw dollar signs and pac got flashbacks to the marquez fight after he ate a few counter right hands.
Honestly I’ve seen Wlad matches that were more engaging.
Floyd played his part. That was the product he’s been packaging for years.
Peoples frustration should be with manny. He needed to take risks. Why should floyd engage when he’s winning.
Round 4 was good. Round 5 was a masterclass by floyd. 3 hard right hands which hurt manny and made him gun shy for the rest of the fight.
Yes. This fight was bad for the sport though.
Over the years I’ve learned that these hyped up “super fights” are just that, hyped up. A lot of times when you have two of the best fighting each other they end up fighting not to lose instead of fighting to win. To the casual fan they look like boring fights but there is definitely a high level of technical mastery that is on display. The only winners in the end are the people banking all the profits and in this case win or lose both fighters made out like bandits.
Manny was clearly frustrated. Floyd came out aggressive and consistently landed those counter shots, combine that with him “running” when he was in a spot he didn’t like and clinching quite a bit when they got in close, nothing was working for Manny. I think he got in his head right in the first round.
I wish I could blame it on an off-night for Pac, but I don’t think I can. I’ll admit I haven’t watched many full Mayweather fights, usually just some clips, while i’ve watched a LOT of Manny’s fights, but one thing i’ve noticed in Floyd’s fights is that whatever sort gameplan his opponents have, they just aren’t able to execute it.
Yes, it seemed obvious Manny needed to throw 300 or whatever more punches than Mayweather, but how could he? Like I said, with the clinching, “running”, and counter shots he just totally dictated the pace of the fight. (i’m putting “running” in quotations because I wouldn’t say he was running away scared, but he was pre-emptively getting himself outta there when he thought he was in a spot he didn’t care to be in).
I don’t think Floyd’s style earned him any fans.
As a big Pac fan, the biggest dissapointment wasn’t the loss, as that was no surprise in the least, but it was his post-fight interview in the ring…it clearly showed how frustrated he was, but that didn’t seem like the same Pacquiao who laughed off the decision of the first Bradley fight. I expected more humility and some acknowledgement of Floyd’s abilities.
One other thing…James Brown little sidebar about the Good vs Evil thing just reeked of defending Mayweather. It was like his point was that “oh it’s not good vs evil because they both suck”. Using the argument that Manny’s no better than Floyd because he cheated on his wife and gambled (which doesn’t seem like a big deal to me for a rich guy, especially compared to Floyd who we know loves to gamble) seemed like a weak argument. You’d think as an NFL guy, with all the domestic violence crap going on there, would think twice than to try and make that argument. My dad actually yelled at the TV “SHUT UP JAMES BROWN” lol.

you like to portray yourself as some kind of authority on boxing in this forum.
everything in the above post is embarrassing; you really have no clue.

In my opinion, Aussie Davo is an authority on boxing in this forum, despite the obvious handicap of being (presumably) Australian.
I have no inclination to go back through threads and confirm this, but you seem to be responsible for a lot of name calling and ‘calling-out’ in this forum at the moment, and that isn’t the type of vibe we generally cultivate. I think, if I remember rightly, you called Aragorn, who is an accomplished and experienced fighter, an ignorant moron earlier in this thread.
It’s none of my business whether you agree with Aussie Davo or not - again, on principle as he is an Austalian, I’ve always assumed he is misinformed about all matters relating to sport (particularly rugby :p), but if you’re a grown up, it would behoove you to behave like one, and save the pettiness and whole internet tough guy thing for the other forums here, where people may be more easily impressed and where that tone may be more generally accepted.
Going into the fight, Pacquiao had already shown some diminished speed. He’d also be giving up a good bit of size/reach. A bigger, defensive minded fighter with good holding/clinching and footwork is able to keep a smaller offensive fighter from teeing off? Surprising.
My friend is a casual fan and was surprised at the size disparity. He was expecting a barn burner. Stylistically, I didn’t think it was going to happen. It was the hopes of something unexpected that led me to watch. But you can’t really be disappointed when everything happens exactly as expected.

anyone who says floyd has “dodged” pacqiuao for years is making an ignorant and moronic statement. maybe aragorn is neither of those things but his statement was.
aussie’s “analysis” of the fight is pretty much at the level of someone who thinks if a boxing match is not like balboa vs creed it’s not worth watching.
if he has watched 12 rounds and came to the above conclusion, his knowledge of the sport is embarrassing imo.

They both did a good job of hyping the fight, which of course is part of their job and a big part of why they are both such successful fighters and businessmen. You just got caught up in the hype (as many other people did) and let your heart and emotions talk your head into believing that this would be a war the likes of Ali vs Frazier/Foreman, happens to us all when we get emotionally invested in a fighter or fight.
When the inevitable happened and your head realized that it had been right all along and we as fans were getting exactly what had been shaping up to happen all along (Mayweather using his superior reach, reflexes, and defensive skills to keep a slightly slower Manny out of position to be able to utilize his superior power, thus allowing Floyd to out point Pac) you got buyer’s remorse and wound up disappointed that the “war” they had promised was never to be. Plenty of other knowledgeable fans wound up feeling the same way.
I saved the hundred bucks. I watched most of the fight this afternoon as a friend recorded it. I didn’t fall asleep…but close.
One big snore-fest.
People thought they were going to see something on the order of Sugar Ray Robinson Vs. Rocky Graziano. But instead got the The Road Runner vs. Pee Wee Herman. I don’t blame some for being ticked off.
What ticks me off is that this fight did nothing good for boxing. In fact, many who may have watched boxing for the first time won’t be back.

Exactly right. Sadly, the fight I was most reminded of last night was the 2007 bout against Oscar De La Hoya - another highly-hyped but miserably boring fight. At this point, I want Floyd to just retire. He may bring boxing to the limelight once or twice a year, but he’s doing irreperable damage with regular people who spend the $100 on his fight, and walk away thinking, “I’ll never buy another one of THOSE again.”
He doesn’t give a fuck, of course, but when he’s gone, it’s the rest of us that will have to deal with it.
That being said, I’m surprised everyone is so shocked. I’ve been saying for years and years that this wasn’t going to be an exciting fight - Pac has trouble with counterpunchers like Marquez, and Floyd is essentially a bigger, faster, stronger, smarter Marquez. This played out EXACTLY like I thought it would.
The only thing I thought might happen that didn’t was at the end - when it was clear Floyd won, I truly thought he might step on the gas and try to make a statement by beating Pac’s ass the last two rounds. But he didn’t, because he’s Floyd Mayweather.
So another snoozefest. He’s a master, yes, and I’m not saying I don’t admire the ease with which he destroys all comers, but it’s still fucking boring. He’s actually a lot like Wladimir Klitscho.
I AM wondering what the PPV numbers for his final fight will be - I can’t imagine he’ll be able to sell it, and unless it’s at 154 and against Golovkin, I’m not buying it. I’m done with this dude.

Don’t take this as an example of all boxing, thank you.
This why casual fans piss me the fuck off.
It’s like me watching a fucking soccer game once every six years, even though I don’t know how to play soccer, what the rules are, or who the players are, and then complaining that the game is boring (even though I don’t know what’s going on), and saying that because this game is boring, the sport must be stupid.
Douchebags like this guy have been posting on my Facebook feed all day. Don’t like it? Don’t fucking buy it then. But bash on my sport because of it, and I’m going to tell you to fuck yourself.
Meanwhile, Provodnikov - Mattyssee was like 2 weeks ago, but this clown doesn’t shit about the bout that’s probably gonna be fight of the year.
floyd should be PAID to retire so there is incentive for him.
because lets face it, matthyese, garcia, keith thurman, whoever it is, they all lose, in boring fashion. he doesnt stop any of them. not that he couldnt, but he wouldnt risk it.
we all know realistically ggg wont happen. gggs bigger than they make out. if they did a face off, the size difference would be massive.

I don’t portray myself as anything but myself. I have opinions and I post them… wow almost like everyone else on a forum!
This speaks more to your insecurities than it does to my portrayal. And FWIW I’m a fighter. I’ve boxed for the better part of a decade with wins at the state level and GG. You? I don’t know shit about you, and I don’t make that assumption, but quit blowing your fucking pipe about people not having a clue simply because they leveled ANY sort of criticism at your boy crush.
The fight was boring. Easily one of the least engaging Mayweather performances. If you can sit there and tell me with a straight face anything after round 5 was engaging, you’re either delusional or lying through your fucking teeth.
