If your gym has chains (or if you have a chain you could bring in your bag), you can wrap them around your forearms then row like that.
Hang some plates from the db with a small piece of chain.
i appreciate all the suggestions, but i realize now, comparing my current gym to my old college gym and your suggestions, that i got locked into a year long deal at a shitty gym (read: i have neither t-bars nor chains at my disposal).

You don’t need a t-bar to do 1-arm t-bar rows. We mean take a barbell and put it in the corner (like ‘old school’ t-bar rows) and put plates on the other end. Row row row.
I’m sure you can find a single 30 lb chain for like 30-50 bucks somewhere. Just wrap it around your arm and there you have it, an extra 30 lbs of dumbbells. 80s 30 lbs chain = 110 lbs, 90s 30 lb chain = 120, so on and so forth.

I have asked this at two different gyms and have been unsuccessful both times. The gym I’m at now, I’ve asked three times. I haven’t been told “no” only that they would “look into it”. Still, no dice.
I have considered putting a petition together with some of the guys who could actually use them and see if that works.

A gym is there to keep members. If buying some more equipment will help retain more members why wouldn’t they?
Now granted, the financial strength of the facility will likely determine their budget or if they feel it will be worth it.
We have bought equipment before because there was someone that requested it.

Is it a franchise chain? privately owned?
The key is talking to the person that does the ordering.
At my gym, there are 3 positions in the fitness center that would be able to request in order and get it pushed through. anyone else and you’ll just get the typical “we’ll look into it”.
Ask to speak to the fitness director, or even the GM. But start by seeing if there a fitness director.
Granted, you could ask and still no luck. But at least ask.

My last request was with the fitness director. She said she was the one in charge of equipment. She said she would look into it, but there was no garauntee. I took that as a no.
i asked at my gym and they said, “this isn’t that kinda gym. that’s more like a gold’s gym type place.”

Hey guys,
my gym only has db’s to 100. i’m setting rep pr’s with those each week on rows and presses, but i’m tired of working for reps and i want to work up in weight. short of taping db’s together what should i do to replicate a 100+ db row? unilateral barbell? or should i just go ahead and try to tape them together? Thanks for your time.

same bro. ive been at 100 for awhile now… this thread appliess nicely to me
thanks dude
i agree with the one arm tbar rows.
Buy some 120s and let the gym borrow them until you cancel your membership someday.
Should last you a few months til you need some 140s.

Ermm going from 100lbs to 120lbs is kind of a big leap IMO. Thats unless OP is able to alot of reps with the 100Lb DB’s then I guess 120lbs wouldn’t be to out of the question
most commercial gyms wont go over 125 because of insurance liabilities. Some gyms refuse to go over 80 lb dumbells.
i’m at 20 reps at this point with the 100’s. in any case, unilateral t-bar sounds like the way to go.
