my gym only has db’s to 100. i’m setting rep pr’s with those each week on rows and presses, but i’m tired of working for reps and i want to work up in weight. short of taping db’s together what should i do to replicate a 100+ db row? unilateral barbell? or should i just go ahead and try to tape them together? Thanks for your time.
If your gym has one of those parallel handle tricep bars, then loading up one of those works pretty well as a makeshift DB. Or you could just go with the 1-arm Tbar rows - those are good too.

I used to have this problem. The weights only went up to 110, and I could do that 30 times. When I finally switched gyms I worked up to 140 x 7… felt pretty good…pretay…pretay…pretay good.
Hey guys, those of you who use the 1-arm T-bar rows, do you use a lot of small plates? If not, aren’t the big plates hitting your body before you get full contracted ROM?
I ask because I’d like to do these because my DB’s at home can’t hold any more plates.

Try DB rows to hip, whilst keeping your body perfectly stable and NOT twisting your spine upon the concentric.
You will feel it in the lower lats far more and you will need to use less weight.

It is a well known fact that kroc rows (rows with momentum and “twisting your spine”) are pretty much the cure to everything, when combined with squats and milk.
You can do it with a barbell if you want to keep the same type of mechanics, just takes some getting used to, may have to change your grip a bit. It’s also just fun to do in the gym!

I use 45’s. Never tried them with smaller plates, and I don’t have any issues with ROM or the plates hitting my body. I straddle the bar and put my opposite foot (if lifting with my left arm, then my right leg) up near the plates, and my other foot behind me.

I have used 25’s and 35’s before and they are significantly harder and I feel them more when I use smaller plates. The range of motion for me is just decreased a lot when I use 45’s. I think either would work fine though.
For a while there I was hanging smaller DBs (10s, 15s, the little rubberized yoga ones) from the 100s at my gym with this little buckle strap I found lying around. I honestly have no idea what it’s for a where it came from but it got the job done, for the most part. Eventually it got to the point where I had two 15s hanging from the 100 and at the bottom of every rep they would hit the ground and smash my fingers.
I’ve since given up on that and moved to the HS row. There aren’t many places in my gym to anchor a BB for T-bar rows but I’m probably going to keep my eyes open.

You should be fine if you find out how to straddle and barbell and are pulling to the right place on your stomach. I guess if you have really short arms it may be hard, but I have tried the 25’s before and it doesn’t really matter because the way I stand and pull them it wouldn’t affect the range of motion much since I stand pretty upright anyway.
