Sounds like a bear, Math. But you seem to be taking it in stride and working through it. Nice to see…

On the mend. Keep doing the rom stuff. Beware, all PTs are sadists.[/quote]
This guy wasn’t too bad, but he had a couple of PT students there for training. THEY were sadists.
I’ve got close to full ROM on everything except extension. That’s not too surprising since they cut off at least some of the tendon stump prior to re-attachement.

At first, I thought you said to have a beer. Imagine my dissapointment when I realized my mistake!
When life deals you a hand like this, the only real choice is to ride it out. If I get impatient and push things too fast, I can really muck my arm up. And bitching certainly doesn’t help. Besides, I’m really a very lucky man. I have a great family, a job, a house, etc. No recent floods or earthquakes, or mudslides. Don’t live in a war zone. No one has come to my village recently to hack people with machetes. I’ve gotten to do a bunch of neat things in my life. I’ve stood on top of mountains.
Oh yeah, I have the opportunity to teach Circuits I at SIUE this coming fall semester.
And, my eldest son got offered an assistantship at Perdue to work on his PhD in math. Pretty cool! The extra money from teaching will help with the sons in college thing. ![]()

And that’s the main reason we come to our little “over 35 section”. It takes a few years to figure out what’s really important in this life.
Thanks, Hel. And I misspelled “Purdue”. Apologies to any Boilermakers in the audience!

Race to Salina: 44.8 Miles to go
Did a short, light lower body workout today. Not much, but it’s something.
Pic is 4 weeks post-surgery. Still a nasty looking scar. Now I just have to learn to say I got it in a knife fight in a bar, and you shoulda seen the other guy (without a silly-ass grin on my face).
Math: “. . . so, that’s about it it was really no big deal.”
Chick in bar: “Wow, I can’t believe you survived a shark attack while catching a tube ride off the great barrier reef! Want to come back to my condo for a nightcap?”

…I can’t top that…
Looks like it’s healing up nicely. How’s the range of motion coming?

Had 2nd PT session last night. First session extension 42 degrees. 2nd session 18 degrees. Pronation, supination, and flexion all are good. Extension is the only problem area. I now have the go-ahead to use light force in aiding extension, and to do some bodyweight active flexion.
Doing prone triceps extensions really seems to help improve extension. Got to do one set of curls with a broomstick! Reminds me of Meat’s “Pink Dumbbell” video. ![]()

Race to Salina: 18.2 miles to go (almost to Solomon!)
Friday was 5 weeks post surgery. I’m guessing I’m still 10 degrees or so shy of full extension. I think I’ve got most of the full range of motion back on supination, pronation, and flexion.
3rd PT session on Monday. See the doc again on Friday.
I’ve been doing light, mostly body weight exercises.
Good work, Math, you’ll be back in the saddle in no time.

Through all of our various trials, tribulations and assorted life events, you have persevered most steadfastly. I salute you and concede the race to you!
Here is a virtual Porter and should we ever meet in person, I’ll happily buy you as many as you desire for an evening.
Your virtual race buddy,
George

That’s (sniff) beautiful, man! If there’s a better porter than Fullers, I want a case of it! I intend to finish, though. Maybe I ought to just go all the way to Denver!
I hope to get the opportunity to hoist a few porter with you one of these days.
Glad to see you back to lifting again.
I saw my ortho doc today at 6 weeks post-surgery, and finally got the full details of the procedure. I’m cleared to start strengthening, but need to take it pretty easy over the next 6 weeks. I’ll start with DB curls and variants at about 1 pound, and can increase by a couple of pounds per week. So, I should be up to 10 - 12 lbs. by the 12 week point. The re-integration of tendon to bone should be established by 12 weeks, but it will take up to 18 months to reach full strength.
Race to Salina - 1.2 miles to go!
Its been 6 weeks already? Glad you’re on the mend. Sounds like you have a great surgeon.
Its been a long and hard road to Salina. When you get there I hope you at least get laid.
Great news Math! It is a slow process, but looks like it is off to a great start.
Also, looks like the journey to Salina is all but over. Nice job! Where to nex?
Thanks, Eco. I think I got luckly with a pretty decent surgeon.
JJ - I’m not cleared for missionary position until 12 weeks! ![]()
Strick, I’m hoping to manage a half marathon this fall. Diet starts tomorrow. I’m hoping to lose about 20 lbs in the next 6 weeks.
7 Weeks post-surgery. I’m up to 3 lb dumbbell curls!
Walked 8 miles this morning, over 30 for the week.
Trying to get my weight-loss mojo workin’.
Nice work work on the rehab, Math. Slowly but surely.
