I’ve had a “moment of clarity”. I’m FAT! It’s looking like I might get a chance to go climbing in early August. I’ve done a few hikes, and the knee is not being kind to me. Carrying an extra 30 lbs is Not Helping! It’s time to shift gears, and focus on losing weight and getting ready for Colorado. Diet starts Monday. No more excuses.
Also, I’m going to change my weight training, and add in a lot more walking, hiking, treadmilling, step ups, stadium steps, etc. I’m going to make every other session a 5x5 based heavy workout, and the other ones will be 8x8 style.
I haven’t had much time to keep up with everybody’s logs lately. I’m sure you’re all doing great!
LS - 8x8 is a Vince Gironda workout
It sort of reminds me of EDT - at least it’s similar volume. With the short (30 sec) rest intervals, it’s a cardio workout too. Apparently, Gironda called it the “honest workout”.
Yesterday, I went to the high school track, and did 32 flights of stadium steps in the heat. Ufda!
The knee is really bothering me, and the diet is already faltering. Crap!

I know what you mean abou the diet. Mine has been spot on for the past three days…right up until supper. If the supper was good, I ended up with desert. It is hard to break bad habits.
Did 4x 1/4 mile loops of the track with 4 x 8 flights of stadium steps after work. 45 minutes with avg HR of 133, and peak of 165. About the 4th day in a row with heat index over 100F. Got all kinds of sweaty
Planning on hiking/camping/drinking/gettingintouchwithmyinneranimal this Friday night with my climbing partner. Haven’t done a night hike in a while. Probably fall on my ass a few times… At least it’ll be somewhat cooler after the sun goes down.
Diet is straight out the window this week. I’ve had two business lunches, and our house is torn up for installation of new cabinets in the kitchen. Dishes are all packed up, I can’t find anything, and my wonderful wife wants to go out to eat each night. I blame the Italians!
I decided to finish out the 12 sessions with the heavier weights, then switch to the alternating plan when I kick in the diet. Yeah. That’s it! That’s the ticket!
I am officially in vacation mode until Tuesday morning. Yeah, baby!
Definitely need to thank Meat for his coaching on the deads, squats, and bench. Thanks, Meat!
Did a night hike of about 9 miles Friday night, then another 6 on Saturday morning.
Diet starts Tuesday. Training focus will be on walks, hikes, stadium steps, step ups, and higher volume on the weight sessions. I want to take off at least 15 lbs (prefer 20) before the early August trip.
Now please excuse me while I go fire up the grill, sip a cold beer, and prepare a high protein dinner.

Started latest diet effort on Tuesday AM at 182.0. This morning (Thursday) was 177.2. If I can stay away from the beer, I can probably drop 8-9 pounds by next Tues. Of course, it’s mostly water, and after that I’ll be luck to drop 3 lbs per week. Unfortunately, my whey just got recalled. I’ll have to figure something else out until I get the replacement. I’ve been eating eggs, cheese, hamburger, chicken, fish, and some veggies mostly. I usually supplement with a whey/cassein blend.

Hey, guys, I made it through free donuts and food at work, but I have a holiday on Friday, and took Monday off. I might have to brew one of those days. That will be very tough! Plus, it seems very un-American to not have a beer on the 4th… I don’t want folks thinkin’ I’m a commie or sumpthin.
