Marvel Civil War #4 Delayed

I am now back to being a regular comic book junkie. All at the ripe age of 41.

I cannot believe Marvel is delaying the release of Civil War issue #4. Methinks there must be something going on like REWRITING the story to better suit their audience (Marvel has polls and the writers sometimes read the fan boards I understand).

By the way, my local comic dealer told me that issue #5 is also delayed.

They delayed The Ultimate Hulk VS Wolverine as well. I don’t think they expected the increase in readership to be like it has been. My local comic book shop has been sold out of most of the Civil War off shoots. I’ll wait for a better script if they do it right. The Civil War Spiderman where he fights Captain America was worth buying. It is kind of wierd being into comics after never really being that way my entire life. I’m just glad they recognize their audience.

The Civil War storyline has me fascinated and I haven’t bought a comic book since the Peter Parker clone saga. If I wanted to read the story, could I just get the Civil War books themselves and enjoy and understand it, or would I need some other titles as well?

So I guess the plot is more than “Hulk throws Wolverine into outer space. The End” then.

I’m feeling a bit of the same. I never consistently bought comic books as a kid and was really more into collecting baseball cards as my childhood hobby.

Now I’ve suddenly got a running subscription of deliveries from Midtown Comics being delivered bi-weekly and I am making it a bit of a habit to stop by the local comic book store on Saturday mornings. The subject matter of the books seems targeted to a more mature audience these days, so maybe it’s not surprising.

I read “The Ultimates Vol. 1” and I cannot imagine that being suitable for anyone under 16 and likely being best enjoyed by the 25+ crowd.

The craziest part is that my girlfriend likes the fact I’m doing all of this.

I wondered the same thing. There is actually a checklist out there of all the Civil War titles and tie-ins.

What’s interesting is that in checking the Marvel site, the Civil War checklist has just recently been expanded:

So maybe they are actually adding in some new storylines and there is some carryover to a bunch of other titles or at least a need to pursue those stories in new books.

But I would actually PM harris447 since he works in a comic book store and his knowledge on the subject is pretty ridiculous.

I’ve asked my comic shop to give me one of everything with the Civil War logo on it, so that I can make sure I see how this is affecting the whole Marvel U.

I hope they’re not “toning down” their original plans to do some ground-breaking, earth-shattering work with CW.

My fear with CW (especially with the foreshadowing that “another player” was manipulating Nitro and the Stamford Disaster) is that there will be a big “reveal” that makes everyone say “Oh! We were duped! I guess we can go back to trusting our heroes to keep their secret identities! Sorry, Peter!”

If the Marvel U. “re-sets” to zero after all this, I’ll be very disappointed in The House of Innovation having ceded its title to DC.

In the interests of full disclosure: I just reduced my comics intake a few months ago from a $250/month habit down to VERY few. After about 35 years of collecting almost everything, I just got tired of it–or I had my second mid-life crisis at 47. (Hey! More money for food and Biotest orders!)

So I used DC’s Infinite Crisis as a good “jumping off” point instead of a “jumping on” point. Now I’m reading “52” and I want to pick up JLA when it starts. In Marvel, I’m pretty much wrapping up with Civil War; otherwise I’ve dropped X-books completely (now that the 3rd Summers brother has finally been revealed)

So far, he ripped Wolverine in half and threw his legs 4 miles away. The next issue, I assume, is when Wolverine finally crawls on his hands back to his legs and somehow heals himself.

What exactly is the basic story behind 52? I am a bit curious since I know so little about it.

Here’s the story so far:

Civil War 4 has been pushed back to September 20th, FCW 5 to Novemeber.

There will be an additional Civil War: Frontline, bringing it to 11 issues insted of 10.

Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, and FF have all been pushed back as well, since they are the main tie-in books.

My opinion:

This is beyond infuriating. Marvel pulls this shit over and over and over. This was supposed to be their huge event, something to rival (and to this point, in my opinion, surpass) Infinite Crisis. It was selling huge numbers of the main title and bumping sales of the tie-ins by, in some cases, double and even triple.

(For example, my shop usually sells around 6-8 copies of She-Hulk. We sold 30 of the CW issue.)

This kind of thing shoud be FINISHED before the first issue is released. But Marvel, in their rush to get something, anything on the shelf went with a slow writer and penciller, both of whom felt the need to attend the Convention in San Diego instead of getting their fucking work done.

This is the only form of media where this is tolerated. Movies come out on time. There’s a new episode of Scrubs every week. But comic books come out whenever they come out.

The truly sad thing is that Civil War was bringing people back into comics that had been gone for years and this is exactly the kind of bush league bullshit that will remind them why they stopped reading funny books.

Rant over.

“So far, he ripped Wolverine in half and threw his legs 4 miles away. The next issue, I assume, is when Wolverine finally crawls on his hands back to his legs and somehow heals himself.”

Wait… the second issue still hasn’t come out? Didn’t the first come out a long time ago?

A week after Infinite Crisis #7, all the regular books came out with a “One Year Later” logo on them. “52” is a “real-time” look at the year between the end of IC#7 and everything else.

I figured that reading it will give me a handle on everything in the immediate post-Crisis DCU

harris447,

You should try following “Planetary” by Warren Ellis. Brilliant stuff, and an average of 4 months between issues (if I’m lucky).

It’s on the third issue now…as in we are waiting on the 3rd issue. The first two were the “ripping” and backstory.

ok, yeah, because I remember having this discussion with a guy about wolverine’s adamantium.

Ok, so he can repair himself fine, but if a body part is completley ripped off, wouldn’t he have trouble? Not because the tissue wouldn’t come back together, but does the adamantium reconstruct itself as well? will it have to be re-alligned?

I’m not the comic book king like Harris is. I have no clue if this has ever happened before anywhere on this level in any of Wolverine’s past stories. I know it is the first time I have seen him ripped in half and still breathing. They show him crawling on his hands bleeding. He can smell where his legs are so that is the direction he is going.

I’ve been wondering about this myself, I’ve never read comics in my life and thought they were kinda lame, until on here I read people saying Civil war was suprisingly good and mature, which it was!

But I’m wondering and fearing where they’ll finish because the 2 lines drawn can’t really be resolved, like in real life, the fight between civil liberties and national security doesn’t end, so for this series to wrap up I’m hoping its not a cop out.

I also hope they take the message of who their readers currently are and stay with the current themes or maturity and take it further, cause I looked into older stuff after I got a taste and read House of M and some other stuff and wasn’t impressed to say the least, so hopefully they stay the course.

Also Cable & Deadpool rocks hehe

Well, technically, bones are connected with living tissue: ligaments, tendons, spongy disks between vertebrae, etc. If the adamantium bits are aligned in time for the healing factor to rebuild the necessary soft tissue, then he’ll be fine.

It’s…elementary.

Been reading it since the first issue. Great stuff, but Casady’s the slowest artist in the world whose name isn’t Frank Quitely

Which issue does Capt. America fight Spidey in?
