How can you expect to engage in this kind of physical activity, when bending forward hurts?
I would not do it.
rest up, heal up, and see what your doctors say.
attempting stuff like this is how injuries last.

I’ve had this pain since January. Its driving me me nuts! Will it ever heal or is my active life going to just come to a halt at 32?
I know your right. But not being to participate in the other activities kind of fucks with me. So no backpacking, no rock climbing, no b-ball, no martial arts? Surely theres someting I can do besides chess for an outlet?
If I can be honest, I hoped somoene would say they were a muay thai champ who did it all with 2 bad discs but thats just me day dreaming again. [/quote]
Not a champ but I do fight professionally both Muay thai and mma, Nate Quarry had major back surgery and has returned to fighting,
Like I said before look to yourself, When I first hurt my back and neck the sports med guy I saw said I should never run again. I looked at him and said that I don’t care about, can I get back to deadlift over 500, squatting over 500. Boxing, rolling sparring.
The thing that helped me at that point more than anything was a book suggested by one of my BJJ buds, it is called Light on Yoga. 'Used it for about 2 months to get back to a point where I wasn’t in pain then started hitting the weight room and mat.
People will tell you many things, you have to decide for yourself, a herniated disc is not going to heal with rest. it is not a strain, do things to help with the inflammation, Flameout is a good supplement.
Again I am by no means anyone special. but I have similar problems, I had to take the past year off from serious training for consecutive injuries and it was killing me but I am back training again.
I had the problems from my back and neck from when I fell like 6-7yrs ago. The chiropractor I was seeing actually did more damage and was probably the cause of the calicification of the dics in my neck. But i woked through all of that to fight for 3 yrs, I had a bicep cut from bone by an elbow alittle over a year ago, had it reattached the following thursday and was back in the gym training (protecting that arm of course the next week) that fully healed within 2 months and in an updated catscan they found my atleas was shifted and would not clear me for the YAMMA Pitfighting event in NJ, I was supposed fight in the undercard tourney. I went to a different chiro to have that aligned and he helped alot, the disc problems still there, while down for that I decided to get a problem knee scoped kill 2 birds at once. during the scope there wwas some extra work done. MCL replaced (I know not common but the doctor felt with my activities it would be best to replace it since it was fully torn), LCL and PCL repaired both meniscus removed and a quarter size hole in the bone had formed where part of the mensucs tore needed to be drilled with micro holes to draw blood to the area. which added alittle time to the recovery, was cleared Nov 17th to start training at max and for my meds in NJ.
So it is all up to you what do you value, what do you want from your life. Don’t make the decisions others want, make the wants you want.
sit down, set a goal and the best way to get there, let your body tell you what is too much and what is good pain. You know better than anyone else.
Enjoy your life, in whatever way you decide.
