I’m putting together a video submission deadlift challenge with prizes (not sure what, pending sponsors)…but I want some of your guy’s opinions.

1st - We want to do this challenge by formula, to keep it fair as possible across weight classes and sexes. I’ll make it easy to understand, and provide a graph so you know what weight to pick, at whatever bodyweight your at that day. We know bw multipliers don’t work well for this.

2nd - We don’t want a cardio deadlift challenge, so I’d like to keep the weights heavier and the reps lower. Obviously super strong guys will still have high reps in relation to most.

3rd - We don’t plan on this being an “everyone’s a winner” challenge… so its meant to be pretty tough.

Average to stronger guys will be hitting 1-10 reps, Elite guys may be hitting 15-20+. Its difficult to scale to everyone obviously…

With that being said, here’s the chart. The higher reps the competitor hits, the higher the placing. NO weight classes, everyone is treated the same “best lifter” style.

(rough numbers on common weight classes)

Male

114 - 290
123 - 315
132 - 325
148 - 370
165 - 400
181 - 425
198 - 445
220 - 470
242 - 490
275 - 500
308 - 510

Female

97 - 205
106 - 215
114 - 230
123 - 240 *
132 - 250
148 - 285
165 - 300
181 - 315
198 - 330

So what do you think? Too high, too low, just right, or should we do something different all together…let me know!

Again, not really looking to make this a very high rep contest. I know how us powerlifters hate reps, but if there is interest we can make it happen.

Edit: I’m sure I’ll be asked for a short list of rules, but these are up for debate as well. I’m thinking…

-Straps Allowed
-No touch and go, bar must have no flex between reps on floor
-Bar must not be dead on floor for longer than 10 seconds or set is over.

…more rules later.

Sounds dope.

I would say the numbers might be a bit too low. I am basing this off of 400 for 165lbs. Idk i feel like a lot of guys could do 15 with that. Not just elite guys

Sumo or conventional?

165 pulling 400 for 15? I’ll be a monkeys uncle!

I actually train my deadlift very similar to the rules of this challenge - think they are also called cluster sets? Not sure, but that’s what I do anyway as feel it helps keep technique while also being able to lift heavy for reps.

Based on that, I think think is a good challenge and the numbers seem very accurate for me.

I would be amazed if there “alot of” guys here who weigh 165 and can DL 400 x 15. Would be interested to see, as that is impressive.

Gotta be dead stop. None of that bouncing shit. Further I’d say most reps in under a minute from a dead stop. That way you don’t have people simply saying it’s rep(s) when they’re taking 10 seconds between each. Time cap it like it is in strongest man competitions.

Sounds cool. But being 15 I think it be cool if you added an under 18 division with a little bit of modified weights, and a small prize not the overall, that way us younger guys can feel apart of this without totally getting shat on.

Can you add a novice division??

I currently suck too much to participate

I think the whole point is to just make it one big competition. The people over at BB.com are doing one extremely similar.

Modifying for age, new to sport, ect just breaks up the competition so much.

Have fun with it, if you are 17@181 you should not expect to rep out more than someone like Liquid Merc but still go for it. Take a video, Im sure you will learn more about your technique to fix stuff and others can help.

Food for though, just think this comp will be much more successful if we keep it how it is instead of turning it into 35,000 different categories. (This is coming from someone who stinks at DL’s my squat over powers my pull greatly)

Good stuff so far guys!

Sumo and conv would be both allowed. Usage of straps is in the air. Some guys won’t pull reps without them, especially if they use a hook grip.

These are both something we will definitely be doing in the future. This is one of many we will be running, and each one will cater to individuals differently. As example, we are currently running a max pull ups comp right now. Once a deadlift challenge comes back around again, we will be doing something different altogether. We will have polls/voting in place to see exactly what the members want.

Ian Bell is only 18 and deadlifts over 800. Don’t let age mean shit. A baby shark is still a fricken shark.

This. Breaking it up so damn much is something that irritates me even in actual meets between all the damn federations and the fact that you have to say “well this is a federation American record” or I’m going to worlds for a federation. It’d be great if there was just one damn thing where you can compete and say “yah I’m the best”. /end rant

As a side note - Achilles I suck at pulling (just a little bit less than I suck at benching). I live and die by my squat in meets.

Id lime to be in the pull up contest tho. Could the op put the link in do I could join that?

Alright your in, and list is updated.

Got at least two other guys on another board pending interest, if straps are allowed…

Think I might make the switch to allow straps if someone doesn’t change my mind here in the next few minutes!

I’m down for this. When is the deadline? Because raw nats is in a month and couple weeks, so I wanna knock it out soon. Right now I weigh 172 but am gonna cut to 165 for the meet in a month, so I’ll prob be 165 within 3 weeks or so
