I’m down for this. When is the deadline? Because raw nats is in a month and couple weeks, so I wanna knock it out soon. Right now I weigh 172 but am gonna cut to 165 for the meet in a month, so I’ll prob be 165 within 3 weeks or so
We will get it started very soon just for that reason! Next few days perhaps.
I’d like to go as well! I wonder if one of my older totals would qualify–know what it is of hand for 165s?

For raw nats there actually is no needed total. All you need to do is compete in a usapl meet within the last year. I am going with a some specific goals, but honestly I would say to check the qualifying standards for usapl equipped nationals. If you can do those raw, you need to get your ass at raw nats! Whats your age/total? Right now I’m trying to break the open squat record of 501 and then break the total record as well as winning junior 165 division. Idk how well my total will stand in 165 open because my squat is better than my other lifts. But the one tough thing is that there arent too many usapl meets between now and then, you def gotta get on it soon!

Then I’d need to get into a USAPL meet for this year. Last one I did was late 2011 for the 165 jr. american record. Now I’m 24 and not sure where my total would be. I smashed my foot real bad a month ago and haven’t been able to train(or walk), so that’s been quite a set back.
What is the competition for exactly?
I’m a 198er at present (cut down to 181 for meets) and pulled 525 for 9 reps touch and go with straps a few weeks ago. I could be willing to try this if I knew what was on the line.
Ehh I’m not really a fan of the straps idea. Thats a HUGE advantage to some people. Otherwise I’d join.

I’ll update that shortly. Depends if sponsorship is on board–or if its out of my pocket.
Really though, the internet glory is the greatest prize. ![]()

Just goin’ by majority votes. We will have rules set in place for the straps. None of that finger-tip hangin’ action that makes the ROM 5" shorter or anything like that. We’ll figure it out.

If it’s a huge advantage, and everyone is allowed to use it, what’s the issue exactly?

Sounds cool. But being 15 I think it be cool if you added an under 18 division with a little bit of modified weights, and a small prize not the overall, that way us younger guys can feel apart of this without totally getting shat on.
Ian Bell is only 18 and deadlifts over 800. Don’t let age mean shit. A baby shark is still a fricken shark.
Ok what the hell, I’ll give it a shot for shits and gigs. Put me in. But I would like this to be in like the deadline the next 3 weeks so I can get this in before my meet august 4th. That would be cool.

Your in! We can make that happen. Which meet you goin’ to in Aug? You going to raw nats too?
I’m in for sure btw. Do we get on the list just by sayin we are down to clown? Btw are we going to have to videotape a weigh in? Because that def needs to be strictly enforced
Yep, that’s all it takes to be up on this list.
The rules are pretty much all done and written. Video of weigh in, lift, and maybe a newspaper/cell phone with the date. There will be a number of judges, judging the reps giving whites or reds.
We haven’t figured out a tie breaker quite yet though. Could be by shortest time completed, earliest video entry(kinda lame), some kind of sudden death round??
just a thought-- rules wise you need to decide if you are accepting strongman form or PL form, that will make a big difference in reps. If ramping, hitching and other techniques are allowed ala strongman, then you should state that. Or you should make sure that everybody knows that only good PL style “smooth” lifts will make it.
I have faith in Efeguwewe, but im hoping another big pound for pound puller from T-Nation jumps in as well. Better not lose a a bb.com or some other nonsense.

Naw it’s the 8th annual Iron Works meet in Midland Mi. Its Usapl and its like the best run meet in the state, second only to the State meet. I’m attempting two raw records, squat and bench both which I broke unofficially so we will see what happens. My goal is raw nationals eventually, but I need to get some experience first.
Also will this be run here on T-Nation of on Lifters Loot or what?

That’s awesome! Do you keep a training log anywhere? Will you be in the Jrs. or Open? So many strong lighter weight raw guys coming up out of the wood work lately. Great to see. Hope you get those records on video!

Main thread with video submissions will be on LL, I’m compiling several forums, facebook, etc. We can keep a thread over here rolling with updates and such too.
I may be in this.
I’m not a fan of the straps idea either. Since this is essentially a burnout on a set weight that should include grip strength imo
