I’d put money on the fact that it wasn’t the other competitors’ first shows. You can compete as a Novice as long as you’ve never won a novice division.

And you would be right! The white guy had fone one show before, not sure about the black guy green trunks though.
I wasnt aware that you could compete in novice as long as you havent won a novice division, thought it was limited to your first show in that fed. No complaints though.
