Maiden's First Show Recap

Congrats on your first show! And have fun eating like you’re on Man vs. Food now that it’s over.

Must’ve been difficult to judge. Each of you seemed to dominate different body parts. Your back killed the other 2. The black dude was pretty shredded, but you still seemed to have more separation in the legs although his were larger. It would all come down to the priority of the judges.

By any chance are you Brazilian too? the guy from the first video is a close friend of mine.

Hahaha no man, I’m just a pale white guy originally from Nebraska

buckeygirl- Thanks. I have really impressed myself with the amount of food i’ve been able to eat. whatever mechanism was there to tell me to stop eating has been broken.

Mik T- I agree back is ahead, but I wouldn’t necessarily agree thateverything lags, but 2x per week back workouts are definitely out.

Stu- thanks again man. I’m obviously a little dissapointed with the result, but I’m happy with how I looked and did for my first show. I’m really glad I did it to expose some weak pionts too.

Airtruth- Good to hear that i wasn’t blown away lol. While I might have had them on a few poses, They were both leaner than me which I think is more important for the judges.

Back looks good.

What was your weight morning of the show?

What do you feel your weaknesses are? How do you plan to bring them up? What will your training split look like?

Do you plan to compete again? If so, any idea when or what you want to achieve before you do, e.g. bring legs up, gain 5lbs, or whatever.

Congratulion on your first show! You looked pretty good!

How did it feel going on stage for your first time? Care to describe what was going thru your mind?

Imo with 2-4more weeks of prep you wouldve won

I know that feeling. Its like there’s a disconnect between your brain and your stomach. You feel absolutely famished even when you’re physically full. There have been a few times where I ended up eating so much I couldn’t move because I was listening to the wrong signals. It seems to take a little while for that to get back to normal.

184.4 on show day. I was 196.6 this morning haha.

Weaknesses- legs, specifically hamstrings and quad sweep. also chest.

New split is:
Day 1: legs, quad dominant
Day 2: chest/shoulders
Day 3: back/bis/traps
Day 4: off
Day 5: Legs, hamstring dominant
Day 6: tris
Day 7: off

Adding in front squats for the first time as well to try to bring up my outer sweep. I’ve always done auxillary leg exercises with a narrow stance to bring it up, it’s just genetically weaker.

Right now I just want to bring up weak points and get stronger in general before I think about competing again. Chances are sometime in the future I will though because I know I can do better.

Thanks man. first time on stage did not feel as akward as I thought it would. I practiced posing evry night for 10-20 mins, so standing on stage and doing the exact same thing I had been doing for weeks felt pretty natural. The only thing going through my mind was “fuck when are they going to say relax” because it seemed like they had us holding the poses forever. It didn’t help that I hit my pose before the other two every time, which I was completely unaware of.

I agree a few more weeks of prep I coul’ve really put up a fight. I think i’ll take a page out of your book and have longer prep next time!

Great job man - you look like you’re holding some water in that first pic but the stage shots look great. Agree it really could have gone either way - you were easily on par with your competition.

Glad it was a good experience for you. : )

I think you already did put up a fight to be honest and wouldve been curious to see the scorecards! A bit leaner and you wouldve been a clear winner even if your legs were behind a bit, imo

Nice to see going on stage felt natural  looking forward to seeing the improvments you’re gonna make during “offseason”

Nice job! Wouldn’t have wanted to be a judge at that show!

Great job man, I’d always liked your posts. Congrats.

you did great man, you got some sick size on you

It totally pays to put in that time posing. I bet you are glad you practiced as much as you did.

After my contest, the only pose that I felt I should have practiced more was front relaxed. Everytime we weren’t hitting a pose it was back to front relaxed, holy cow, did my delts start to burn in that position.

I wouldn’t sweat hitting the poses first, just gives them more time to look at you IMO. As long as you aren’t rushing it, I think it shows stage presence, but I could be wrong.

Not to be redundant, but compared with the other competitors and compared with your upperbody, your legs do need work.

Your back and arms looked great. Also, a couple more weeks (as you already acknowledged) of prep would have brought you in a bit tighter as well.

Live and learn, have fun in the offseason!

x2. You know what you’re talking about, and it shows. I can’t remember reading any of your posts and disagreeing with your view/reasoning.

Jacked man, good job. Even though you were a BIT softer than the other 2, I would have given you the nod based on sheer development. Upper body is LARGE, good work.

thanks man. I’ve been hitting legs 2xper week for a while now, but I was also hitting everything else 2xper week. I’m hoping that reducing everything else to 1xper week while keeping legs at 2xper week will get them caught up a bit as well as hitting them fresh after an off day. I know I can at the very least maintain size on everything else at 1xper week.

Thanks for the kind words Lonnie, Grind, SMF and gregron. Good to hear others say it was close.
