Interesting about the recovery.
Still 14 incline is a 14 incline, hope you listen to some good music while doing that torture.
Minimaltechno-I did have some great music while enduring the torture and was getting all pumped up mouthing the words while bearing the pain. It’s a good thing I’m not easily embarrased because I’m sure I looked dumb.
A. Deadlift max reps with only 60 sec between each set
135x12, 135x15, 135x15 I was going to go for 20 on that last set but by then my grip was toast, the last rep came up slow, and my form was about to break
B. Leg curls
These decreased at the same weight from last week. Although, that might be because the deadlift increased by a total of 420lbs of volume.
85lbsx9, 85lbsx8, 85lbsx7, 85lbsx6
C. Step up to balance
25lb dbsx15 reps per legx3 sets. These were killer. I couldn’t have done another rep on my left leg by th last set and I took 5 min break between the second and third set because I was dying cardio-wise. I got the reps though. That’s all I cared about.
D. HIP extension (as someone pointed out…)
One setx15 reps without weight
10lbs x15 reps
10lbs x12 reps failure on the last rep. How sad is that?! I failed at a 10lb hip(back) extension!
My hamstrings are not happy right now. I was planning a killer crossfit workout for tomorrow, but I think in light of how much I struggled today, I should do a spinning bike cardio session, foam roll, and sit in the hottub with the boyfriend tomorrow.
So interval cardio… even worse!
I wish my MP3 and iPod didn’t break. It’s making it harder for me to do cardio. I’m happy that you had some great music.
Ooh hot tub with the boyfriend. Sex cardio mayhap? Heh heh

You know, I didn’t even own a mp3 player until three months ago and never worked out with music until then. Now I don’t know how I even survived one workout without it. Good luck with that ![]()
The hottub is a fourty person public hottub at the rec center, so no boyfriend fun ![]()
Yesterday I did:
Bench press 95x5, 105x5, 110x4 (1 more than last week)
Upright db bench
27.5x12repx4 sets I got two more reps the third set and five more reps the fourth set than previously. Go me.
Seated cable row
90lbsx 15reps x4 sets was cheating via jerk a bit at the end (not breaking form, just jerking). Going up in weight next week and dropping reps ![]()
Bent over db reverse fly
10lbsx12x 3sets. Need to up this as well.
Plank-1.5 min, 1.25 min, 1.25 min these really got me. My abs were burning! Ha.
Going for a nice run around town today.
I don’t know how you survived without music either, I can’t do anything without, its good for blocking people/distractions out.
Nice work in here. I don’t think I could even muster up doing crossfit insanity after a hardcore lower body workout like that! Nice work!

i concur!! Great job:D
Yeah, while doing crossfit after a legs day may seem like a torturous idea, I assure you it’s preferable to doing it before a legs day…
As it turned out, my run was more intense than antisipated. My boyfriend is back living with me and we haven’t run together in nearly a year. I wanted to impress him with my cardio skills…I think we can all see where this is headed… Also, he hasn’t been working on cardio much, so I figured I’d finally be able to beat him…unfortunately, he stayed with me most of the run until we reached the mile long hill that ends at my front door. Part of it is a medium incline, and part of it is straight up dying-lungs incline. I finally lost him on it, nearly threw up on my door matt, and today we’re both hobbling around like cripples.
Also, i went camping last night and woke up this morning with an eye infection from my contacts. Had to go the the emergency room, get expensive disinfectant and everything. Also, I’m not allowed to wear a contact in that eye for 9 days and I don’t own glasses. This is especially awesome as my boyfriends birthday is tomorrow and we’re heading to the next town for some fun.
Needless to say, my next lifting day will be monday.
ouchie on the eye infection - hope that shit clears up fast.
When hiking with the hubbie we tend to edge eachother on too, and often end up crippled but laughing about it.
Even though you were crippled, was he impressed?
Hope your eye is better and you have a good workout today.
Hey Hope all is well!!

honestly at the end of a 10hr hike we’re both too tired to really give a damn. we just want to take our shoes off and sit. lol.

Yeah this is exactly how it goes with me and mine as well.
In a hurry, so here’s today. I was feeling off and weak, but that’s probably due to celebrating my bf’s birthday for the last 3 days. There was definitely a lot of terrible eating and drinking and then sitting in a car for many hours on end. So today is probably just a fluke.
Front squat:
85x5, 95x5 (felt harder than last time), 105x5 (form crapped out at end and I mainly got the last one because I wasn’t going to give up), 110x3 (one less than last week), 115x2 ( I wasn’t supposed to move up on weight but did anyway)
Speed Skater Squats single leg:
5lb dbsx 10 reps per legx 4 sets
Pull throughs (felt heavier than last week):
110x4 setsx12 reps
farmers walk:
30lb dbs 1 time around track without stopping
stopped three times around the second time and called it a day.
Have to go to work now.
Not bad for a post celebration workout. Way to grind it out.
Thanks. Today I was going to do an intense cardio workout, but yesterday my left ankle was feeling… I don’t know what the right term for it is…tingy. You know, like I was always one step away from it buckling but no real pain. Today my left knee is feeling like that and the whole leg just feels like something is pinched somewhere.
So I’m going to do a good spinning session and spend a good chunk of time foam rolling it and stretching it before sitting in the hot tub. Pretty sure something is just a little too tight. I get stuff like this every now and then and it normally sorts itself out if I don’t push it within a few days. That’s one of the things that’s different this time with me and lifting; I feel no need to rush and push my body.
Awesome bench pressing.
I think I had an eye infection from contacts once. Not so much infection as it was just me sleeping with them on more than a couple occasions.
Aww so cute about you and your bf being crippled together. Competition is good =)
Speed skaters with DB’s not sure if I’m ready for that yet.
Hmm, I think you are a wise woman. I’m learning that I can’t rush and push things either with lifting if everything isn’t working. Best to just put in the energy to fix it. I’ve had more step backwards because I did push things. As long as I have consistency things progress along.

I just finished reading that “Max out on squats everyday” article by Bret Contreras and it goes against what we’re talking about here. According to that article, we’re under trained and experience problems because we haven’t set a higher level of consistent training. I think there’s a problem with reading articles written by guys who train olympic athletes and applying their methodolgy to us, who are never going to put 30 hours a week into the gym. While some of the mentality is helpful (such as “the athlete who can bear the most pain wins” and “your body lies to you. You never know going in what you’re body is capable of that day”), pushing through certain pain and ignoring fatigue is a terrible idea for people like us, who don’t have thousands of hours of experience doing it. But I think it’s articles such as that one which cause us to feel like we need to ignore mounting physical setbacks.
As for the speed skater squats, they definitely are feeling easier, even with weight. Although, yesterday I put the bf through the legs workout above and he literally failed on the third set of unweighted speed skater squats on his left leg. It was the most painful looking thing I’ve seen in a while. Those things are a bitch.
Yeah I’m all about listening to the body of late. I don’t believe my body lies to me, in fact it has tried to tell me things that I have ignored to my detriment. I really do believe it has a wisdom of its own. And really after Tuesdays great session I had, I know I can work WITH my body and progress, I don’t have to work against it, there is no actual ‘fight’ with it. For me anyway, I don’t know, I often wonder if its a different for guys, but they have all that testosterone that help build/repair muscle faster.
I think that type of training is great if you can eat well and get enough sleep, don’t have any other stress but there just isn’t enough time in the day for me to get all I want to get done.
Ugh. The last couple workouts have been a backslide. Not eating enough again. The day before my disasterous arms day (which I’ll post as soon as I get home and find the paper) all I had was eggs, a bag of fritos, a plate of sushi, and a piece of cake. Basically, I went on an impromptu fishing trip and then bet my boyfriend a chocolate cake thwt he couldn’t hold wasabi on his tongue for 30 seconds. Very mature, I know. Then yesterday all i had was eggs, a protein shake with a banana and two scoops of protein, and a bouron burger plus lots and lots of tequila.
You can’t eat like that and expect to make progress. Yet here I am again today. All I’ve had is a plate of spagetti and a protein shake with a banana and peanut butter. The problem is it’s summer and I am really not accomplishing anything except workingout and working part time. I need more structure but my motivation to impliment it is lacking.
Today I did a crossfit style workout where I did:
Run 800 meters
30 db clean and push press with 25 lb dbs
I did two rounds and then another 800 in 20 min and felt like death the whole time.
One large problem with the eating is with my boyfriend living with me now, the amount of energy that goes into making enough for him and me to make one meal deters me from making leftovers. I should probably make another large soup, make a large thing of rice, and have meats ready to go. Ugh.
