Lunges in Relation to Back Squats

Just wondering, what everyone lunges for 10 reps or round about, and what they squat for 1 rep max.

I am wanting to add in barbell lunges, 5 sets of 10 after my squat workout, I have a home gym so these seem like a good assistance exercise choice to squats.

I’ve not seen a whole lot of talk about them on here.

Also, if you could tell me how much you weig? That would be helpfull too.
Of course I will go out and try them, and see how much I can do, but its not the type of exercise I am gonna go balls to the walls with and try and max out on.

Thanks a lot guys.

Start low and work up. No point in gettin hurt. I lunge with about 1/3-1/4 my 1rm max.

Not a powerlifter at all. I squat olympic style like 335 and lunge anywhere between 70-100lbs for 10 reps each leg walking lunges (alt lunges are diff). I weigh 210

Walking lunges were hard for me to get hold of using a BB. Start low and work up is my advice.

Nice, thanks fella.
Walking lunges is what I would like to do, I think you are right about going light, as I said, it doesnt seem like the type of exercise you wanna go heavy on, kinda like upright rows, lot of injury risk.

I do my squats 5x5 or 10x3 so they are very strength based, I am thinking lunges would be good for getting a good pump and really smashing the quad in a way squats dont for me.

Will probably start at 95lbs 5 sets of 10 and see how it feels.
Thanks again for your input.
How are the lunges working for you?

Are you looking to add mass on your legs (like in bodybuiling) or do you powerlift?

If powerlifing, we are you trying to get a pump?

A few of my friends powerlift and they use the same weight I do, even thou they squat between 450-500lbs powerlifitn style of course

I would start with just the bar. It is different feeling and balancing when your arms are above you compared to at ur sides with DB walking lunges…then just work up

You dont need to be Ronnie Coleman on your first try lunging 225 for 50 yds

Hey bro, I powerlift yes, but also want to add size. My quads are very under developed compared to my hammies and glutes, from years of hill sprints and kickboxing.

Basically, I just wanted an assistance exercise for my legs that really hit the quads well, and thought I would try lunges, as I have no access to anything but my home gym with a squat rack and 200kg of weight.

Will try with my bar then to start off with, its 45lbs so should ok to begin with.

I just find that my quads dont get that good a workout with squats even though I squat ass to grass. Plus, just looking to keep things fresh and try somethin new.
Thanks again bro.

Lunges really work hams and glutes. If you do very short lunges it will hit more of the quad, but lunges hit a ton of hams and glutes

For quad size try some front squat and narrow back squats. Hack squats are good too ( you can do the old school BB ones since you are at a home gym)

Lunges are good for quads, but if your looking to really bring up quads, then these exercises might be a better option and get quicker results

Ok thanks mate, didnt know that.
I’m switching to front squats in a few weeks anyway so I will wait til then.

Best to leave the lunges for now then, I already have a gigantic J-Lo ass as it is.
