Lucky To Be Short

I’m just about sick of hearing this shit. This is a typical comment I get about once a week at the gym where I work. “Hey man your really strong I saw you benching 315 the othe day. That’s awesome your lucky your so short.” Yes I’m lucky I’m short…

The fact that I bench over 300 pounds has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I train my ass off, and that I’ve been lifting for years trying to get over the 315 mark. These comments usually come after I spot some bench camper doing partial bench press because of his “bad shoulder”. or after I spot some retard slamming 185 off his chest after talking about how much stronger he’s gotten since he started taking Cell Tech.

The only problem is I can’t smack these guys in the face A-because I’m too short and B-because I work at the gym where I lift. So does anyone have a suggestion in how to respond to this. of should I just let it go and use it as fuel?

strength is strength. anything else is just an excuse.

I know it’s a bitch being short. People look at you like your an enigma because of the weight you can throw around. They don’t take training into consideration, and rely heavily upon the mechanics involved when lifting and try to attribute that to your abilities.

If you really want to mentaly fuck them, when they say something like that to you tell them not only does being short make you stronger but your dick hangs closer to the ground than theirs.

Bullpup,

Shorter, prouder, and stronger, oh did I mention my willy hangs closer to the ground?

Um, how about letting it go?

sheesh…

Sounds like little man syndrome to me. You need to relax. (j/k)

Little man syndrome is walking around like a bad ass. When your minding your own business pounding out a set when your done some dickhead makes a reference to your strength and tries to relate that to your height.

I think it’s bull shit, I bench over 325, and it’s a little agrivating. No one thinks about the hours I spent training or the way I eat. They try to attribute it to my height it sucks. That’s like saying a 5’ 4" fatt kid that’s never worked out can bench as much as me because we’re the same height.

Bullpup

I just finished listening to a dave tate interview… a 300lb bench press sucks

:frowning:

sigh

back to the gym.

After listenig to a Dave Tate interview i’m sure a 405 lb bench press sucks.

and it’s 325 dick.

I believe he has been quoted as saying that a 500 lb bench press is a joke, but he might’ve been referring to a shirted bench.

My dick hangs closer to the ground. Classic, I’ll definately start using that one.

Yeah, at the same weight a shorter guy has an advantage, but think of how much more weight a big guy can carry. I’m 6’4" 205# and skinny as shit, whereas a 5’6" carrying my weight would probably be pretty built. Short guys have the lever advantage but big guys have the advantage of being able to carry more weight on their frame so I really think it all evens out until you get to the elite levels (where you have 5’9" guys pushing 300 pounds).

Right on brother.

I agree that shorter guys do have an advantage on some lifts. It’s just a cop out to justify strength by height.

I’ve heard that too. I was once told because my arms are shorter it makes benching heavy weight easier.

It Does

Don’t be too sure!

Yea, and ALL taller people have a much easier time deadlifting.

They also are often heard sayting that deadlifts are the better way to test overall strength. eyeroll

Ask them about squats, you get the same answer…

Aren’t most of the top benchers in the world over 6’ tall anyway???

No excuses!

I can’t resist so:

Yea, but it’s still proportional to your height…

heh, sorry.

exactly…

the strongest squatters, benchers, deadlifters, olympic lifters, and strongment are all 6’ or taller…

listening to tall guys whine about being at a disadvantage is nausiating…

Bullshit! A shorter guy does NOT get any less of a ROM than a taller guy on the bench press! The taller guy can move his damn hands out more and get just as much if not more ROM than a guy with short arms! People just do-not think sometimes… and yes I agree, most world class powerlifter are over 5’ 10" and above.
