what would be a better combo for athletic lower body strength. like for an American Football Wide Reciever.
Sumo Deadlift/DB Split Squat
Back Squat/Natural GHR
bare in mind i can already DL and BSQ in the low 400’s and i am fast and agile now. but i want to be stronger, faster and more agile.[/quote]
why limit yourself? but if I were to choose I would go with back squat and ghr’s. This is only because I personally have gotten better results by increasing my squat poundages, oly and powerlifting style, than from dead lifts. Just my personal opinion. Seriously though, why limit yourself?
It depends on your bone structure. Some people get stronger in deads while others get stronger in squats. But if I were you, why not do power cleans instead? IMO, it’s better for an explosive sport like football.
those exercises are a small part of a bigger plan, tho for the next 6 weeks those will be my only max Strength lower body movements.
as far as power cleans go there a good exercise but i was looking for better “strength” exercises not explosive ones.
basically monday im gonna be doing max strength, wednesday Str-Spd and sat spd-str. i know u shouldnt train all 3 qualaties in one training block but for a few reasons i feel like i have to(time constraints) and that i can progress from it.
haha im lactose intolerant…but i am gonna stick with the squats…maybe push those numbers up to the mid 400s.
Does anyone have any thoughts on doing short agility drills(pro shuttle, zig zag cone drill) with a weighted vest on, with about 5-10% of ur bodyweight? i weight 198lbs
Keep squatting until you stagnate and use the split squat as an assistance lift. You need to balance your quads with strong hamstrings, and I think deadlifts will do a better job than GHRs (you can use GHRs as an assistance exercise though). Save the agility drills when you close in on your playing days.
