Lower Back Pain... Any Ideas

Hey everyone I just wanted some ideas about an issue i have been having. When I dead lift my lower back just strains like crazy and then gets super sore. Before i could dead a good amount but now i have trouble doing 75% of my max. And i wanted to know what it could be. I did injure my lower back a tendon strain but I have healed that trough good morning and mobility work… god bless Eric Cressy. And i am sure that it is not another injury because i have my mobility and i am able to preform all my other exercises without any problems. I have rested for a good month but still no good. Any ideas anyone?

Form videos are very crucial with these.

Likely your form sucks. Start with rack pulls and lower the pins gradually slowly. And lots of split squats. Plus stretch the crap out of your hamstrings, groin, quads and hip flexors. This is what I do when I hurt my back from time to time…sadly, I have almost got it down to a science.

How is your core strength? I used to have the same problem all the time. Check out the "Hips don’t lie " article and don’t forget reverse hypers.

How does your back feel besides when you’re deadlifting? Does it hurt when you squat too? Does this feel different than your previous problem?

If it only hurts when you’re deadlifting, then it probably comes from a breakdown in form like the others have said. Make sure to warm up slowly and stretch vigorously. Also try and have a strength coach look at your form. If you don’t have access to one watch plenty of videos and videotape yourself deadlifting.

Good luck fixing this issue! Back problems are no fun.

A lot of people with this problem curve their backs midway through the repetition. If you make sure to keep good posture, and you avoid lifting too much injury almost always be avoidable.
