I used to drink quite heavily (from 17 to 27yo). At 34yo (married w/ children) I now workout religiously, eat well and rarely touch the stuff. However I am experiencing some of the signs of low T (low libido, lethargy). I tried Tribex (2 months at 4 2x day)without an increase in libido or energy. Could this 10 year alcohol abuse have permanently screwed my T levels? My MD did not want to venture a guess without getting the results from my blood test (for T). Anyone have more info about permanent T supression via alcohol?
Is he checking your liver function as well?(Alcohol is directly toxic to the liver). Make sure also he is checking your Sex Hormone Binding Globulin and Free Testosterone levels, along with total testosterone. If your liver is impaired, SHBG could be elevated, tying up free Testosterone. If the mods will allow me to post these links, you will find some pretty good info on alcohol related liver disorders, and suggested nutritional strategies-
