Low Carb/AD Style Diets

Just for the record ufc all access did segment on Andre Arlovski and his diet is a low carb ad type diet steak and eggs for breakfast lunch and dinner meats and veggies. and he looks in pretty good shape to me.

If I was training an athlete I would not restrict their carbs. I wonder how many professional athletes are on some type of low carb diet

Excerpted from my post on the low carb roundtable II thread:

Loosely tangent to this - I race BMX and downhill MTBs. BMX is an all out 40ish second effort and DH races range from 3-5 minutes with your HR pegged at 85%+ the entire time. ATP/CP and Glycolytic pathways all the way.

I did the AD for the second half of last year (and am resuming it right now) and NEVER suffered any performance problems, save occasionally overdoing the carb-ups and feeling sluggish on the weekends.

I generally felt better on my P/F days due to decreased subcutaneous water and the positive impact on leg speed that came with it.

Sooo…that’s my anecdotal two cents regarding VLCDs, glycogen stores and anaerobic sports performance

Too many people overlook the fact that on a cyclical low carb diet, your body adapts to running on triglycerides.

alot of fighters, boxers you wuold be suorised

And I thought I was the only one. LOL! I am starting to hate carbs in a way. Lots of good fats and good protein and I have endless energy it seems.

Yeah, even on 100% “clean” carbs I never felt as good as I did Tues-Thurs when I was drained out but still had a little glycogen in me.
