Hey guys. So I have been training since January using Waterbury’s total body training (no training in years before that). I have been making great progress (lost 50 lbs with some muscle gains) with no injuries… Until last week. I woke up the morning after front squats with intense pain and stiffness in my low back, glutes and hamstrings. Went to the chiropractor and am now resting and recovering as per his instructions. I am now trying to understand what I did wrong so I don’t do it again. doc told me it was a L4 L5 injury. I had been slowly increasing my reps and weight due to an old knee injury and was finally feeling strong again before this.
I’m thinking I broke form and had too much anterior pelvic tilt when I was in the hole but I’m not sure. Could it be a hamstring, piriformus or pectinious flexibility issue? Abdominal weakness perhaps? Any insight would be appreciated.
Update: so I went back to see my chiro today and low and behold I didn’t actually injure my back as we first thought. Turns out it was all radial pain from periformis syndrome. Just went out and bought a new foam roller and some tennis balls to massage it out real good.
Anyone have any experience with periformis syndrome?

Yes. I’ve had piriformis syndrome a couple times (currently have a minor case after hip surgery).
The tennis ball has really helped to loosen it up. It hurts like hell at first but after a while I got it to release. Anything else I can do besides muscle cream, Advil and ice? How long until it goes away?
