Love Handles w/ Low BF

Just cracked me up to see over 90 posts
about the subject. I didn’t bother reading most of them. Too many 12-year olds post on T-Nation.

Love it when one guy answers every post. [/quote]

Way to pass judgement on the 90 posts you didnt read.

I didn’t read the whole thread, just the OP. How’s your salt intake? Is it too high?

Yeah, I second that, get to 7-8% and see if you have them. (Have fun dieting!) You cant know until you get down to that level. I’m at 10% right now and I have a nice little tire, but I have also got rid of my tire before too.

For me, when I diet, I get super lean everywhere else first. Lots of vascularity in my delts and my upper thighs. The tire is last to go. But when the fat was gone from everywhere else, then my body went after the tire.

I want to say that it’s not that big of a deal to carry a little weight around your waist. But the truth is that there are few things better than being really lean and having a nice six pack! =0)

read this it is working for me.

This is a big problem for the over 30 crowd. I have looked at this from the point of view of being one of those guys who bought a boat becuase of lazy people wanting their fat sucked out. Yet you guys have to realize that not every one can spend the energy or have the discipline to get where you guys are, so give Plastic Surgeons a break ( it does work)Yes I am plastic surgeon. age 51/180/5’10"

Yet some come in my office and I really wonder what can be done as sometimes even as an expert I look at that area and ask:

Is this fat that can be sucked out?
Is this loose skin from beimg fat that is now hanging?
Is it muscle?

Sometimes I have trouble figuring it out and I have been evaluating these problems for 15 years! Some case are obvious.

I have the same problem and still cant solve it completely.

I have tried:

Mesotherapy–expierimemtal treatment on myself did not complete it but may go the full course and see.
Thermage a non surgical skin tighting procedure. It takes 4 months to see changes and I think it is helping but I am only at two months.

Its a real problem and I dont know if chemically you can solve it either. Surgically you can solve it but it leaves big scars so I dont reccomend that.

This is not medical advice but just some thoughts to add your and my depression over this. Photos would be nice to see what your talking about as well.

You should post more often.

Good post, nice to hear from a plastic surgeon on the topic. With a name like “Dr Muay Thai”, I was really hoping your post would end with shin kicking someone, but good post none-the-less.

To those of you with low BF and love handles, how far below your lifetime maxium weight are you?

Could it be just skin that’s not able to contract and stretch tight as much as someone who was never fat & currently at or near their lifetime maximum weight?

I have a question. If you have a thicker waist and somewhat genetically bigger/wider obliques with maybe a little bit of fat there, not much. Should one do oblique work (twists, side planks) to tighten this area or just lay off them and concentrate on doing regular ab work and dropping bodyfat (thus not making that area any bigger)?

I’m built like that for the most part. I wouldn’t do any direct oblique work unless I am down to single digits and it looks underdeveloped for some reason. I see tons of guys who don’t even look like they lift weights jumping on that oblique machine and then hopping right on the treadmill. I don’t think they understand that making those muscles larger while they are still fat isn’t going to make them look better.

Cool thanks Professor X. My bodyfat is probably around 12-13%, but with my obliques already kind of on the bigger side, I think I will take your advice and lay off any direct work.

I had a slight problem with this too. Ripped everywhere else…but continued to sport some handles. Try HIIT. I mean reall hard sprints about two days a week. Maybe 8 to 10 100 meter sprints. Took care of mine.
