Losthog—2018 First year

You should hire a coach to work with you and consider doing a powerlifting comp.

Good point. A small jump, but to a nice number so it’s still exciting.

The weight class I’m in I would be super weak.

It’d be your first meet so it wouldn’t matter. Almost everyone is weak for their weight class when they start out. It takes a while to get to a point where you aren’t.

Don’t forget that you don’t have to compete in the open class, pretty much all the PL federations have Master’s classes, and records are usually broken down in 5 year increments, like 40-44, 45-49, etc. So, don’t assume that you won’t be competitive.

I checked out a few of these - often, I would have been the only one competing at my weight in my age group. Instant medal, lol.

I call that getting a medal for coming last. I’ve got one of those.

It’s like childrens games, no matter what place they get a medal  And they don’t care they are happy :1st_place_medal:

In little league baseball we got $0.50 or $1.00 at the concession stand after the game. Winning got us more so we still kind of learned the concept of competition.

I’m not interested in medals. For being old

Hog ,if your interested in competing but don’t want all the age bracket rubbish, have a look around, I did an amateur comp when I was about 35, we were all pooled together, I was against dudes nearly 50, and the young roosters in their 20’s.
Great bunch of blokes and atmosphere :+1:

Just get out there and compete, then! Right now my goal in competing in strongman is just to not zero any events, and I’ve succeeded so far. Getting a trophy is the last thing on my mind. We’ll see how the next one goes, though…

You could always start a Beer League Strongman Competition. Throw together some events, compete with your friends, drink beer between events. It could be just like softball. You could have a monthly competition and keep track of points for a “season”. Actually, this sounds like something that would work better in the summer since you’re off work. I guess you have the whole school year to plan this and make it happen!

I would totally sign up for that! How close to Kansas are you, Hog?

Done. Decided to not do accessories with this and had a nice deload workout. Just keeping the heavy weights in my hands and in my back. 365 was a grind and 385 was a disappointing rep. A nice deload workout really abs glad I worked up to a single of the training maxes.

Great 5 plate dead man. Keep it up.

It means I have to pull 6 plates soon. I’m getting crushed by Hog on squats so I have to pull away on deads.

@losthog, what’s your total now?

I’m at 1220.

  • 370 squat
  • 305 bench
  • 545 deadlift

And I must admit that due to hip and shoulder pain I’m probably not good for the bench and squat at the moment. I hit all of those in June and July.
