It’s just a silly example. ~ is a math symbol, which when used in an equation, signifies that value multiplied by infinity. y~y = an infinite number of y’s. In a dorky written context, WOW!~! would equate to WOW!!! with infinite exclamation points.
God, I just learned something about math on T-Nation at one am Saturday night. On a “Michael Phelps is Hot” thread. There’s something wrong with that, I think.
I second that.
Er, do you people lift weights ? ![]()

This is how a lot of the funnier threads started out- hijacks of troll threads.
And the even funnier thing is, is that I sat here and read it all…
Thanks. :I

same.
heres some useless knowledge to add to the pot… if the beleraus hammer thrower wins the olympics, himself and his immediate family will get a life time supply of sausages… thats better than maths for ya. well slightly easier on the brain at least.
Scott
mmm. sausage!
Thats even better than the bacon of the month club, haha!!
bacon of the month club??
ur a fan of sausage then ![]()

Only the links, the square ones are weird for some reason…
Aaaaaand, I know where this conversation will probably head, so I’ll stop right there!
So which is better for you, bacon or sausage?
the square varity is a big hit in scotland. ive never seen it anywhere else…
do you get “vegetable roll”. which is essentially a circular sausage but the same meat as the square varity with lots of chunky onions and other vegs in the mix?
it depends on the bacon and on the sauasage… there are so many types… if pushed id say i enjoy a german bratwurst sausage the most.

The purpose of this thread was actually to play matchmaker for some of the fine people here. I see my nefarious plan is working!! But it doesn’t work for Druids, like Winston Churchill…

Well, I’m no math guru, but I’m pretty tilde isn’t a math symbol for “multiplied by infinity” (maybe HH can confirm this).
Now, it may be a pop shorthand notation to describe infinitely repetitive chains, but in the scientific community one would more likely use square brackets with an n (or infinity) subscript. An infinite string of y’s isn’t useful in any other nerdy domain I can think of. The programming scene has no recurrent need for theoretically infinite strings to warrant allocating a keyboard-accessible special character for it, seeing how scarce they are.
In all honesty, I’m inclined to believe that it originated and is primarily used among IMers, SMSers and whatever kids spend their time doing these days. Of course, I could be wrong.
Try not to take any of what I wrote here personally. It just happens that I like tinkering with machines for fun and got frustrated when I failed to decipher that “WOW!~!” despite spending many minutes on it.
I was confused as well, because I understood the tilde to represent approximation. But I’m no mathematician, so I puzzled for a moment, then moved right to miserable retroactive self-consciousness.
Phelps: I think he’s sexy, but only because he’s so driven, and I find that sexy. His looks, eh. If I met him and liked him I’d think he was decent looking. If I didn’t like him I’d judge more harshly. He can go either way.

hmmm…
im confused!

I have a newly found appreciation for your trolling abilities.
Carry on…

Seriously, can you guys stay on topic or go in SAMA.
I was watching the Olympics with a few girls the other night and one of them commented that swimmers have the most disgusting bodies. I agreed with her because I share the same sentiments.
I think most women drool over him for a few reasons: for one, if the women in question live in the U.S. then 66% of the men they see every single day are fat.
That means that anyone with 10BF% or under may as well be sent from the gods. The other reason is that he’s Michael fucking Phelps. He’s pretty close to being the greatest Olympian of all time, and if that doesn’t carry an enormous amount of sex appeal than I don’t know what does.
The sexiest thing to women is for them to see you in your natural element. For Phelps, his element is swimming, and he just so happens to better than anyone else on the planet as well.

I think 90%+ of women would be attracted to him just cause he’s loaded and famous.
And just to avoid any misunderstanding, T-sisters: you are NOT a representative sample of the female population.
fo shizzle…
He is attractive, in a boyish sort of way…and he seems like he would be pretty down to earth, so that makes someone attractive as well.

No, no, it’s cool.
So, blazindave.
Tell us how dreamy you think Michael Phelps is.
